The Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) will report to the Research Project Manager and provide strategic support for clinical operation of the IMPaCT program at Penn Medicine and ongoing research and evaluation studies assessing innovation and implementation of the model in multiple settings. 

About the organization: The Penn Center for Community Health Workers is a nationally-recognized hub for Community Health Worker (CHW) research, patient care, and dissemination. The Center’s mission is to improve health equity through effective community health worker programs. CHWs, hired from within local communities, provide social support, advocacy, and navigation to patients from marginalized communities. Our IMPaCT CHW model has served over 13,000 people in Philadelphia and has been proven to improve primary care access, chronic disease management, and mental health for patients while reducing hospital days by 65%. We are currently working with more than 50 organizations across 20 states to help them launch and sustain effective CHW programs. Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

Clinical support for IMPaCT program at Penn Medicine. The CRC will be responsible for coordinating and refining processes for patient identification, enrollment, and ongoing evaluation of programs that utilize the Individualized Management of Patient-Centered Targets (IMPaCT) model in inpatient, outpatient, and remote settings, including:  

  • Supervising a team of 3 coordinators who identify and enroll patients into the IMPaCT intervention, foster relationships with clinical partners, and provide administrative research support.
  • Coordinating with IMPaCT program leadership (including CHW Managers and the Program Director) to facilitate day-to-day enrollment activities and guide ongoing program innovation.
  • Leading the data-driven quality assurance and quality improvement (QI) work of the Penn Center for CHWs, which includes managing ongoing QI studies, maintaining project databases, and preparing reports to ensure provision of quality care and inform strategic decision making.

Coordination of research and evaluation studies. The CRC will also coordinate ongoing research studies within the Penn Center for CHWs relating to use of CHW programs to improve health outcomes across diverse settings. Research duties may include but are not limited to: 

  • Contributing to the design and implementation of quantitative and qualitative research protocols.
  • Coordinating ongoing research activities including patient enrollment, data collection, maintenance of study manuals and databases, and data quality monitoring, cleaning, analysis, and interpretation.
  • Managing communications with regulatory and funding entities, including through the preparation and submission of documents including continuing reviews, protocol amendments, budget reports and study progress summaries.

The CRC will also support the Research Project Manager and other PCCHW staff in providing technical assistance related to data infrastructure and program evaluation to PCCHW’s external partners. 

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3-6 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience managing research and/or evaluation projects, including experience developing and using data collection instruments, managing project databases, and conducting data analyses
  • Experience fostering successful teamwork, both through training and supervising staff and facilitating operations within and across diverse teams
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, particularly the ability to explain topics and concepts in an easy-to-understand, accessible manner both verbally and in writing
  • Excellent organizational skills, including problem-solving abilities and detail-orientation
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic organization, where flexibility, collaboration, and creative thinking are strongly valued

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in public health, social work, or other related field
  • Experience gained in a clinical environment, and working knowledge of health and research data systems (REDCap, electronic health records)
  • Experience with quantitative analysis software (STATA, SPSS, or SAS) and/or qualitative analysis software (nVivo, ATLAS.ti, etc.)
  • Interest in and experience with health equity research and interventions
