Sari Bari Private Limited is a social enterprise based in Kolkata, INDIA that designs, manufactures, and sells its own brand of high-quality upcycled consumer products.

Our mission is to offer freedom to women trapped in the sex trade and to provide opportunity to women vulnerable to trafficking. We are looking for an experienced Project Manager to supervise a wide range of projects within Sari Bari in Kolkata, INDIA. You will be responsible for the delivery and overall success of each project. You will supervise managers and inform management on progress and performance.

The Project Manager (SBUSA) in partnership with the GM (SBPL) is expected to oversee all daily operations for the company. Further, this means that the individual will supervise and develop all unit managers and administrative staff directly, as they perform their day-to-day leadership roles at each of Sari Bari’s four production units.

The Project Manager should expect to travel to Sari Bari’s various production units on weekly basis. Due to this frequent travel from unit to unit, the job requires mobility in order for the Project Manager to travel with a 2 hour distance when needed. The number of times required for travel can vary based on weekly occurrences.

To further add to what has been listed in the “Responsibilities” section of this job description, overall the Project Manager  is expected to continually work toward improving operational strategies and structures within Sari Bari, while holding strong to company values & vision. The individual is expected to build on already established practices and procedures, while bringing fresh perspective to Sari Bari’s unique work environment. The individual is expected to come to work at Sari Bari with the posture to first learn the reasons why the business was started, and then commit him or herself to building on that strong foundation.


A successful Project Manager must have a broad knowledge of program management principles. They must have a strategic mindset as well as be able to lead and develop their team and partners.

The goal is to ensure every program will be delivered successfully and add the highest possible value to the organization.

Operational and Financial Oversight

·      Write reports on the program for management and for funders

·      Communicate with funders as outlined in funding agreements

·      Ensure that the programs operate within the approved budget

·      Monitor and approve all budgeted program expenditures

·      Monitor cash flow projections and report actual cash flow and variance to the Executive Director on a regular basis (monthly/bimonthly)

·      Manage all project funds according to established accounting policies and procedures

·      Ensure that all financial records for the program are up to date

·      Ensure financial reports and supporting documentation for funders are prepared as outlined in funding agreements

·      Provide required information to have invoices generated and submitted to funders according to the established timelines

·      Identify and evaluate the risks associated with program activities and take appropriate action to control the risks

·      Monitor the program activities on a regular basis and conduct an annual evaluation according to the program evaluation framework

·      Report evaluation findings to the Executive Director and recommend changes to enhance the program, as appropriate

·      Design upgrade and implement all intricate details of project plans.

·      Provide oversight for the administration of designated program/business within organization.

·      Work with other members of organization and in partnership with the Sari Bari General Manager in support of goals.

·      Make Decisions: Assess situations to determine the importance, urgency and risks, and make clear decisions which are timely and in the best interests of the organization.

·      Organize: Set priorities, develop a work schedule, monitor progress towards goals, and track details, data, information and activities.

·      Plan: Determine strategies to move the organization forward, set goals, create and implement actions plans, and evaluate the process and results.

·      Solve Problems: Assess problem situations to identify causes, gather and process relevant information, generate possible solutions, and make recommendations and/or resolve the problem.


Leadership Development & Community Support

·       Ensure all staff members receive orientation and appropriate training in accordance with organizational standards

·      Supervise program staff in partnership with the General Manager  by providing direction, input and feedback

·      Communicate with staff and other stakeholders to gain community support for the project and to solicit input to improve the project

·      Liaise with managers to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of objectives

·      Coordinate the delivery of services among different program activities to increase effectiveness and efficiency

Responsibilities

·      Initiate and set goals for programs according to the strategic objectives of the organization

·      Plan the programs from start to completion involving deadlines, milestones and processes

·      Develop or approve budgets and operations

·      Devise evaluation strategies to monitor performance and determine the need for improvements

·      Supervise all program and project managers involved to provide feedback and resolve complex problems

·      Discover ways to enhance efficiency and productivity of procedures and people

·      Apply change, risk and resource management principles when needed

·      Read reports prepared by managers to determine progress and issues

·      Ensure program operations and activities adhere to legal guidelines and internal policies

·      Keep senior management informed with detailed and accurate reports or presentations

Requirements

·      Proven experience as program director or other managerial position

·      Thorough understanding of project/program management techniques and methods

·      Excellent Knowledge of performance evaluation techniques and key metrics

·      Outstanding knowledge of data analysis, reporting and budgeting

·      Working knowledge of MS office and program management software (e.g. Basecamp, MS Project etc.)

·      A business acumen with a strategic ability

·      Excellent organizational and leadership skills

·      An analytical mindset with great problem-solving abilities

·      Excellent communication skills

·      BSc/BA diploma in management or a relevant field

Supervisory Role

This role is responsible for the daily supervision of administrative personnel, unit managers & the development of employees under each unit manager. (100-plus employees in multiple locations).


Work Environment

The performance of this position will require exposure to the manufacturing areas so that the individual best understands the day to day challenges and morale of the employees. For the most part the position is mobile and performed in non traditional office spaces.


Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The position will require walking and moving from office to office as required in addressing and working with unit managers to solve weekly operational issues. The employee will also have to reach above shoulder heights or below the waist and lift as required to file documents or store materials throughout the workday. The employee must be able to lift 30 pounds and use proper lifting techniques.


Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and standard hours of work are Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 7 p.m. Also, two Saturday work days each month, 10:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. 


Travel

Weekly local travel to different production units should be expected. Annual travel to the USA for vacation and fundraising is to be expected.
