Reporting directly to and working in collaboration with the Director of Development, the Major Gifts Officer is a highly experienced fundraiser who will work on major gifts, annual campaign, major grants, and stewardship. (We cannot consider candidates without a minimum of five years major gift experience.)

The Valerie Fund seeks a well-organized individual with a minimum of five years major gifts experience with a demonstrated track record of fundraising and identifying and cultivating major donors of $10,000 and up.

The candidate should be able to establish credibility and rapport with existing and prospective donors. Our goal is to grow philanthropic giving from individuals by $5 million over the next five years, expanding upon The Valerie Fund's current revenue budget of $7 million.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop a robust portfolio of new and current major donors by building meaningful relationships, and stewarding them.
Bring creative ideas around fundraising and possess the ability to execute.
Be an integral member of a small team that includes a development assistant and Assistant Director of Development.
Build strong relationships with colleagues responsible for special events and marketing. In collaboration with the Director of Development and Executive Director, develop a metrics-driven strategy for the portfolio to maximize results.
Assist in the development and coordination of donor cultivation events where The Valerie Fund story can be shared with new prospects.
Establish and maintain a donor solicitation and cultivation cycle.
Although we are currently working in a hybrid environment, candidate must be available to come into the office when required, and meet with donors in person.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required. A track record of cultivating prospects, obtaining major gifts, and raising significant philanthropic support is essential. Understanding of the regional healthcare/non-profit environment is advantageous.

The successful candidate will have outstanding written and communication skills, be a persuasive storyteller and love fundraising. Must be team oriented with a strong work ethic, mission driven, and inspire donors to give. Emotional intelligence is required, as well as a desire to represent The Valerie Fund to a wide range of constituents. Success making individual solicitations and closing gifts in the $10,000-$100,000+ range is required.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:

The Major Gifts Officer reports directly to Lori Abrams, Director of Development and indirectly to Barry Kirschner, Executive Director of the Valerie Fund.
