I. Overview of Teach Plus

The mission of Teach Plus is to empower excellent, experienced, and diverse teachers to take leadership over key policy and practice issues that affect their students’ success. The organization empowers expert teachers to advance policy changes and improve instructional leadership and teacher supports; trains and coaches teacher leaders to successfully mobilize and lead teacher teams; and empowers teacher leaders to be change agents among their peers and policy makers.  Since 2009, Teach Plus has trained thousands of teacher leaders across the country who are driving policy changes and improving the instructional practices of teachers to create an education system driven by equity, access, and excellence for all students.

 

II. Position Responsibilities 

Reporting to the Mississippi Executive Director, the Mississippi and Arkansas Program Associate is primarily responsible for teacher directed communications and events management for our Policy Fellowships and network events. The Program Associate will play a critical role in the recruitment and selection of our program participants and will provide operational support for the Mississippi and Arkansas teams.  The role will include opportunities for professional growth in education policy and nonprofit management. Primary responsibilities will include:

 

Communications

  • Update social media and other forms of communication to keep local teachers informed about key educational issues and to promote Teach Plus.
  • Identify opportunities for teacher leadership and publicize them through a monthly teacher leadership email and social media outreach.
  • Review major publications covering education policy and drafting tweets highlighting key articles for the @teachplusMS and @teachplusAR Twitter handles.
  • Maintain certain local pages of the MS and AR website.


Events Management

  • Manage logistics for monthly Fellows Sessions (in-person and virtual) and 4-6 retreats and conferences annually, including, but not limited to; vendor research, registration, ordering necessary food and supplies, building and sharing surveys, and communicating logistics, set up and technology support. 
  • Support and implement marketing materials and outreach for teacher leadership and policy events. 


Recruitment and Selection of Program Participants

  • Support the recruitment and selection process across the policy fellowship programs by helping to craft messaging, execute on logistics, promote opportunities, etc.
  • Recruit program candidates in person, including attending and presenting at events.
  • Communicate application requirements and program details to applicants through multiple channels across the state, including in-person presentations, webinars, etc. 


Operations and Program Support 

  • Maintain accurate and timely data and enter appropriate information as it relates to the policy programs into the Salesforce database for ongoing accountability reports.
  • Support the daily needs of the Mississippi and Arkansas teams, including but not limited; scheduling meetings, responding to requests for information, and providing meeting support as needed, e.g. preparing materials, logistics.
  • Provide administrative, logistical, and editorial support for the policy work as needed including but not limited to, policy briefs, policy memos, testimonies, and op-eds. 
  • During the Mississippi and/or Arkansas Legislative Sessions, attend hearings and meetings with Teach Plus Fellows as needed, and monitor legislative happenings.


III. Qualifications

  • Minimum of two (2) years professional experience in an education or nonprofit organization; experience in communications, recruitment, event planning or related experience is preferred. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational and time-management skills, and ability to complete assignments independently and accurately. 
  • Excellent relationship-building and interpersonal skills, and ability to collaborate effectively, both in-person and in a virtual environment.
  • Experience and comfort using social media platforms, spreadsheets, and database programs (e.g. Salesforce, Campaign Monitor, or similar).
  • A passionate commitment to equity and improving public education by retaining and supporting outstanding teachers to support the success of all students, in particular for low-income learners and students of color. 
  • Teaching experience is a plus.

V.  Location and Travel

This position will be conducted virtually (primarily from a home office).  Applicants should live in, or within easy driving distance, of Jackson, MS and/or Little Rock, AR.   


VI. Compensation and Benefits

Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience. Teach Plus offers a  generous benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance, 3% matching 401k plan, disability and life insurance, and Flexible Spending Accounts for medical and childcare expenses. Teach Plus offers generous time off benefits including 15 vacation days, 3 personal days, 5 sick days, 11 holidays, and winter break. Additionally, Teach Plus offers parental leave and a 4-week paid sabbatical for every five years of service.
