Digital Organizer, Housing and Climate Justice Campaigns

The Center for Popular Democracy/CPD Action is seeking a full time digital organizer for our campaigns team.

The Center for Popular Democracy and CPD Action (together, CPD/A) work to promote equity, opportunity, and a dynamic democracy in partnership with innovative base-building organizations, organizing networks and alliances, and progressive unions across the country. We currently work with more than 53 affiliates in 34 states and Puerto Rico, and build the strength and capacity of democratic organizations to envision and advance a pro-worker, pro-immigrant, racial and economic justice agenda. We are a rapidly-expanding, changing organization that partners with organizations across the country to build political power and win tangible victories that improve the lives of low-wage workers, immigrants, and communities of color.

About the Position:

CPD/A is seeking a full-time Digital Organizer for our Housing and Climate Justice Team. This is a new position to design, innovate and build national digital-to-in-person base-building campaigns and strategies that target tenants and climate leaders. The Digital Organizer will work with the Housing and Climate team, in coordination with CPD/A's communications department, to design experiments and innovate strategies to build a base of tenant leaders with our affiliate network and to create digital hubs for organizing in geographic areas with limited organizing resources and infrastructure. 

The Digital Organizer will support in creating a digital ladder of engagement for the leadership development of tenants and climate activists and will collaborate with other CPD departments as well as our Housing and Climate affiliate cohorts in an iterative design process. The digital organizer will support and collaborate with CPD affiliates in digital organizing and coordinate national efforts. The digital organizer will also execute regular digital communications and engagement asks for the Housing and Climate campaigns and will support in campaign branding, marketing, graphic design and managing social media channels.  

This position will report directly to the Co-Director of Campaigns for Community Dignity.

Primary Responsibilities

The Digital Manager will:

• Design and implement a digital organizing strategy that advances campaign goals and builds our base of tenant and climate leaders and amplifies our national narrative;
• Reach out to tenant and climate activists online, engage them in organizing conversations, and move them to offline organizing and action;
• Develop engaging social media content, graphical materials, and compelling emails, petitions, and stories;
• Use analytics to improve our messaging, programs and campaign to strengthen impact;
• Provide coaching and technical assistance to CPD affiliates including through a cohort of digital organizers who are moving local housing and climate justice efforts;
• Provide rapid response digital support to build and advance needed petitions, Facebook pages and groups, landing pages, etc. in a way that is aligned with organizational guidelines;
• Write compelling emails and stories deepen our base, inspire action, raise money, and advance organizing online;
• Collaborate with CPD staff and affiliates to develop new innovative blended organizing strategies that combine digital, social media, and field outreach ;
• Keep projects on track and collaborate and communicate closely with team members;
• Support the overall development of a robust tenant and climate activist recruitment program that builds power for long-term organizing.

Job Requirements 

• A demonstrated ability to tell stories that move people;
• Experience producing strong and impactful digital content that tells stories, including through graphic design, videos, memes, etc.;
• Proficient in setting up and managing digital list building and community sites including petitions, Facebook groups and pages, donation pages, etc. (which includes being proficient in customizing HTML/CSS coding);
• 3-6 years of organizing and digital campaign experience;
• A demonstrated commitment to social and racial justice organizing, and fluency and understanding of the challenges facing Black and other communities of color, young people of color, immigrant communities, and low-and moderate income families;
• Problem-solving perspective and ability to work well in teams;
• Strong project-management skills;
• Preferably professionally fluent in English and Spanish written and oral communication;
• Ability to deploy timely content during rapid response scenarios and keep cool in high stress environments;
• Ability to travel occasionally (after travel is safe, given COVID-19) and have an ability to work varied hours including some nights, weekends and holidays when needed .

Salary and Benefits:

This is a union position. Salary will be determined according to a salary scale which takes into account years’ experience, location, job category, and other factors, but is expected to be $60,000-$70,000 and category 2. The Collective Bargaining Agreement is available here.
