American Federation of Musicians, Local 47, was established in 1894. It represents 7,000 local musician members. We act together to protect our mutual interests, to promote and conserve our craft, to agree on fair prices and conditions, and to enforce fair dealings in our profession. In short, we combine our strength to do whatever we can do better collectively than we can do individually.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, working with membership to answer questions about Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA’s), filing grievances, preparing for arbitrations and negotiations, organizing existing members and service contracts, assisting members with the local’s scale wages and contract terms, and overseeing the administration of the electronic media department. Additional responsibilities include establishing contact with potential members, and organizing and running meetings.
Effective written and communication skills, ability to assess information and evidence and deal with conflicting/changing priorities, ability to think strategically and exercise a high level of judgment, detail oriented, ability to meet deadlines and work in fast-paced environment, good typing skills, proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
