About the position:

Civic Builders seeks a Fundraising and Communications Manager to support the expansion of Civic Builders’ impact by developing and driving its fundraising strategy, stewarding Civic Builders’ brand with external audiences, and engaging a wide range of philanthropic funders, corporate investors, and education reform leaders. This work will support Civic Builders’ mission of ensuring that real estate is not a barrier to an excellent education. 

Working directly with Civic Builders’ Director of Strategy and Real Estate, this individual will support the design and implementation of a comprehensive external relations strategy and multi-year fundraising strategy. This work will establish a strong pipeline of partners, both in terms of funders and future school partners. 

The primary responsibilities of this position will be designing and executing on an external communications and marketing strategy, identifying and researching foundation prospects, writing letters of intent and full grant applications and reports, and supporting other fundraising related tasks, including Board management tasks. 

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the role will begin remotely until conditions change in NYC. To be a successful candidate, you will be a strong writer who is able to compellingly articulate complex ideas. You have experience in the development field and have put together fundraising collateral including e-communications and grant documentation. You will bring entrepreneurial energy and be a self-starter, with the ability to drive projects and anticipate and solve challenges. A passion for Civic Builders’ mission is a must. 

Candidates interested in this role should demonstrate the following competencies and have the ability to fulfill the described responsibilities:

Fundraising

● Conduct prospective donor research and prepare collateral materials for meetings and events.

● Implement a marketing and e-communications strategy for compelling engagement with the existing and prospective donor base.

● Identify and research potential funders and funding opportunities in order to understand and match opportunities with Civic’s work and funding needs.

● Develop and maintain grants and PRIs via compelling applications and reports.

● Steward, support, and track Board and vendor philanthropic activity.

● Maintain donor records, donation acknowledgment letters, and databases.

Communications and Marketing

● Identify and prepare the leadership team for opportunities to elevate Civic’s public profile, such as conferences, seminars, roundtables and other networking opportunities.

● Maintain and enhance Civic’s marketing materials such as the website, Annual Report, regular e-communications, and social media platforms.

  • Develop a deep understanding of the NYC and national public charter school sector and identify tactics to grow the market presence of Civic Builders 
  • Steward the development of messaging and communications pieces such as press releases, newsletters, annual reports, and other relevant materials.

About You:

● You have experience with the core fundraising and communications activities outlined above, with at least 7 years of relevant development experience.

● You are a storyteller. You are a great writer, editor and communicator with the ability to distill complex topics.

● You are comfortable in design and digital communications platforms.

● You have the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders, including senior leadership and donors.

● You have excellent time-management skills and have demonstrated success in managing multiple projects and competing priorities to meet deadlines.

● You are an entrepreneurial professional with a passion for Civic’s mission of ensuring all children have access to a high-quality public education.
