    Description

    Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Controller is responsible for all accounting-related activities, including high-level accounting, managerial accounting, and finance activities, within a company. The duties of a controller include assisting with the preparation of the operating budgets, overseeing financial reports, and performing essential duties relating to payroll. The Controller will work closely with the CFO on the collection, analysis, and consolidation of financial data.

    The ideal candidate is a mission-driven, detail-oriented, highly collaborative financial professional with exceptional data analysis skills, and a demonstrated talent for the continuous improvement of finance systems and processes in growth environments. Additionally, they have a deep commitment to Covenant House Greater Washington’s (CHGW) mission of serving youth, ages 18-24, who are experiencing homelessness, disconnection and exploitation in the DC area.     Level of Language Proficiency

    • Ensure that the organization complies with state and federal financial accounting standards and legal regulations.
    • Oversee all accounting functions, including AR, AP and PR
    • Responsible for maintaining an accurate general ledger, reconciliations, month-end close, and maintaining workpapers.
    • Assist the CFO with the preparation of monthly financial reports with variance analysis
    • Prepare and update short and long-term cash flow and strategic financial forecasts for use by internal management and external parties.
    • Design and monitor internal controls.
    • Lead the external annual audit process and be the main POC.
    • Design and implement effective budgeting policies and procedures through the development of financial fiscal policy.
    • Oversee and coordinate tax fillings.
    • Assist with other financial and asset management and special projects as needed.
    • Provide staff training in the areas of budget development, budget management, fiscal accountability, and financial procedures.
