POSITION OVERVIEW 

LIFT is currently seeking a Staff Accountant, an experienced Finance and Accounting professional who helps maintain the smooth operations of the organization’s Finance and Accounting functions by assisting the Controller and SVP of Finance & Administration with the various responsibilities associated with the team and how they serve the organization and staff’s needs. 

The Staff Accountant will be responsible for the completion of several daily, monthly, and year-end responsibilities that help ensure that LIFT is compliant with the regulations and codes it needs to abide by. The Staff Accountant is also the primary point of contact for the department and is tasked with providing excellent client service to a dynamic staff with rapidly changing and arising needs in addition to the static needs that occur every month.  Working with the Controller and SVP of Finance, the Staff Accountant also has the opportunity to find ways to continuously improve processes and practices within the Finance and Accounting team and the FinOps team as a whole that will lead to more efficiencies to maximize the group’s bandwidth. 

 

AS A STAFF ACCOUNTANT YOU WILL:

  • Reconcile monthly expense reports and process payments to corporate credit card charges via the accounts payable system 
  • Manage day-to-day accounts payable process and maintains the accuracy and integrity of the accounts payable function including opening, date stamping, downloading, reviewing, logging in, and distributing all incoming invoices for proper signatures, authorizations, purchase order numbers and coding
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts monthly  
  • Process and record accounts payable transactions; ensure invoices, expenses and staff reimbursements are coded and allocated accurately in the accounting system, uploaded and are paid out in accordance with the payment schedule, as outlined by Finance and Accounting procedures and policies
  • Maintain historical records by filing documents
  • Reconcile AR against Salesforce
  • Handle department phone calls, emails, and mail as pertains to bills, invoices and Finance-related inquiries
  • Review expense coding to ensure GAAP and budgetary compliance
  • Assist the Controller in the preparation of financial statements
  • Assist the Controller and SVP of Finance and Administration in the compiling of data for the annual audit and F990
  • Receive and process all incoming checks, verifies that the checks have been logged correctly, prepare deposit for the bank, and enter receivable information in the Accounting system
  • Working with the HR/Talent team, processes payroll related changes
  • Prepare journal entries for accounting software
  • Prepare monthly allocations and journal entries
  • Reconcile bank and investment activity monthly and prepare adjusting journal entries for reconciliations and expense reclassifications
  • Review monthly general ledger, accounts payable, and payroll reports
  • Prepare monthly and year-end closing
  • Compile information and prepares 1099 forms for year-end distribution
  • Assist with preparations related to tax and agency audits, including annual submission of Forms 5500
  • Perform other tasks and special projects to assist the Controller and the Finance team as needed 

 

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE: 

  • Bachelor’s degree and minimum 4 years’ experience in Accounting; experience working with nonprofits highly preferred
  • Experience with Federal grants and single audit required
  • High levels of proficiency with various Finance and Accounting systems such as QuickBooks
  • Previous experience with Microsoft Dynamics a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate requests to staff in a way that provides resolutions and excellent customer service
  • Ability to disseminate technical information in a way that is understandable to persons outside of the Finance and Accounting field
  • Strong collaborator who enjoys learning and developing best practices in partnership with a team
  • Proven track record in creating verbal and written communications
  • Familiarity with current and upcoming Finance and Accounting standards and regulations
  • Mastery of GAAP rules for nonprofits and overall business operations
