Goddard and Isaacs Center are announcing their strategic alignment this month—the culmination of a series of conversations between our leaders over the course of the last few years. As institutions we have a lot in common: we’re both community-based organizations that work closely with public housing tenants; we’re members of United Neighborhood Houses, the umbrella organization for historic settlement houses across the city. 

Organization Overview: The Stanley M. Isaacs Neighborhood Center (Isaacs Center) is a neighborhood-based, nonprofit, multi-service organization founded in 1964. Our mission is to promote social and physical well-being and encourage growth, self-reliance and dignity throughout every stage of life. Today, the Isaacs Center endeavors to provide effective and innovative community-based programs that reach 6,000 children and families, disconnected youth, and isolated and homebound seniors in Yorkville and East Harlem each year. 

Position Summary: The Career Coach will lead career coaching and leadership development training and support employer engagement and technical skills instruction on the Isaacs Center’s Gun Violence Prevention Program. The Career Coach will work extensively, both in group, one-on-one, and virtual settings, to help young adults develop and apply the skills necessary to secure meaningful entry-level employment and progress along a career pathway. Informed by extensive interactions with young adults, and detailed information about student workplace preferences and occupational values, The Career Coach will work with the Career Services Manager to effectively match participants with partner worksites that boast internal professional development programs and tangible opportunities for professional development. 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Ability to capably manage multiple projects
  • A service-minded “will figure it out” working style
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with a diverse array of stakeholders
  • Ability to carry out tasks on their own and ask for support when needed
  • Knowledge of and interest in personal and leadership development

Primary Duties:

Career Services

  • Provide one-one career and small group career coaching to young adults aspiring chefs as they launch their careers
  • Unlock the potential of Isaacs Center young adults by mentoring and coaching students and their supervisors
  • Work one-on-one with students to create resumes and prepare for interviews and trails
  • Record student interactions and internship and job placements into Salesforce
  • Other tasks as assigned

Employer/Key Stakeholder Engagement

  • Support the Career Services Manager in placing 50 culinary students into high-quality full-time employment that boasts competitive wages, safe working conditions, and opportunities for wage and professional advancement
  • Consistently connect with employers across industries about job opportunities and career pathways so as to ensure that Isaacs Center graduates maintain access to the most competitive opportunities
  • Represent Isaacs Center on panels, webinars and forums
  • Develop and maintain strong partnerships with restaurants of choice who see entry-level employees as assets, boast strong training environments and can ensure safe working conditions for culinary students
  • Work with partner employers to map career pathways so students can make informed decisions about internship and job placement
  • Other tasks as assigned

Curriculum Design & Workshop Facilitation

  • Support the Director of Culinary and Lead Instructor in the customization a 20-week culinary curriculum for Advance and Earn that blends technical skills training with leadership develop and entrepreneurial program models
  • Lead the facilitation of workshops that teach leadership development skills to students and program alumni
  • Facilitate in-person and virtual workshops on topics ranging from basic knife skills to digital marketing and social media
  • Rigorously research programmatic approaches, products, and technologies that equip future restaurant workers with the skills and abilities to work with and alongside new technologies
  • Support the Director of Culinary in the scheduling of experiential learning opportunities that keep participants engaged throughout cohort including cooking competitions, guest speakers, and kitchens visits (when safe)
  • Work with participants and regional farmers to design, prepare and distribute special event meals for consumption by socially-isolated older adults in The Isaacs Center community
  • Other tasks as assigned


  • Support the development of framework and infrastructure that allows The Isaacs Center to operate a takeout/delivery concept out of the Community Kitchen that is staffed by AE interns
  • Work with the Director of Growth and Innovation and the CEO/Founder of Uplifting Leadership to support the design and implementation of the Assistant Manager Apprenticeship program
  • Work alongside the Director of Growth and Innovation to assemble an Employer Advisory Council who will help steer culinary programming at The Isaacs Center
  • Support the Director of Growth and Innovation in the completion of grant proposals and the attainment of letters of support from employer and community partners
  • Other tasks as assigned
