The Coalition on Human Needs (CHN) is seeking a highly motivated, creative, energetic individual for a one-year New Media Content Fellowship, a 20-25 hour weekly commitment. We are looking for an individual who is as an effective storyteller, a multi-media communicator, and a social justice enthusiast. This would be an ideal position for a person completing studies at either the undergraduate or graduate level, or for someone who has completed an undergraduate degree program and seeks more new media content experience before either graduate studies or full-time employment.

The part-time Fellowship offers the opportunity to produce multimedia content that simplifies complex Capitol Hill policy issues into understandable, bite-size information for the public - with a subtle emphasis on reaching younger populations. The Coalition understands that social media and new media (e.g.: podcasts and videos) are instrumental to reach and empower young and new activists. The more the people understand policy issues, the more they will be empowered to take action. We are messengers who are trying to light a spark in the audience.

The Coalition will use the following content as messaging tools to further support advocacy for human needs programs. The three main media for the content are daily social media, a bi-weekly podcast, and short videos:

Daily social media content: 50%

· Developing and creating content to engage audience on CHN’s social media platforms: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.

· Working with Digital Communications Associate to build a strategic social media calendar.

· Keeping a pulse on current social media trends, language, users, and best practices.

Podcast and short videos production: 50%

· Co-writing and producing a bi-weekly podcast that reflects social and economic hardships of low-income populations, and advocates for ending poverty through federal policies.

· Planning episodes and coordinating technical logistics with the Digital Comms Associate.

· Editing short videos with audiogram to promote the podcast on social media.

· Publishing the podcast to various podcast hosting applications.

Qualifications and requirements:

· Commitment to social and economic justice issues including ending poverty and hunger through public interest advocacy and organizing around federal policies.

· Excellent writing and editing skills with an overall understanding of socio-economic factors of injustices and inequalities.

· Professional familiarity with Canva, and Premiere Pro is strongly preferred.

· Experience in social media content creation and digital media.

· Experience working with video and podcast projects is a big plus.

· Ideal candidates are well-spoken, confident, creative, outgoing, able to balance multiple priorities and work independently and unsupervised.

· Either pursuing or complete a B.A. or B.S. degree in Political Science, Journalism, Economics, Multimedia Communications, and other related majors.

Salary: $33,000. CHN offers excellent benefits including employer-paid health insurance, paid sick, administrative, and vacation leave.

The Coalition on Human Needs is an equal opportunity employer. Women and minorities are strongly encouraged to apply.
