Healthy Air and Water Colorado, fondly referred to as ‘HAWC’, is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting public policies that mitigate climate change and its harmful impacts on Coloradans health and livelihood by uplifting the voices of health professionals who see the health harms on the frontlines. HAWC is a sister organization of Healthier Colorado and while independent from each other in terms of their programs, share resources like staff time and administrative operations.

Healthier Colorado is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to raising the voices of Coloradans in the public policy process to improve the health of our state’s residents. We believe that every Coloradan should have an equal opportunity of living a healthy life. Healthier Colorado aims to make meaningful change to improve people’s health throughout our state’s diverse communities.

Position Overview

We are in search of a Communications Manager to help make the connection between climate change and the health of Coloradans in order to win legislative and regulatory campaigns that aim to mitigate those health harms. What makes us unique is the lens through which we convey the need for action. Through the perspective of our activists, we aim to uplift the stories of health professionals who see the real-life impacts in their clinics, in their communities, and in their research, and the Communications Manager plays an integral role in doing so. The Communications Manager will employ multiple tactics, including earned media and a strong online presence, to ensure our voice is heard.

This individual will report to Healthier Colorado’s Senior Director of Activism and will be part of the HAWC team.

HAWC Non-Discrimination Policy

HAWC is dedicated to the principles of equal employment opportunity in any term, condition or privilege of employment. HAWC does not discriminate in employment or advancement opportunities on the basis of race, sex, color, creed, national origin, ancestry, age, sexual orientation (including gender identity and gender expression), disability or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local law.

We believe that traditional hiring practices have historically and systemically marginalized entire groups of people — including people of color, people from different socio-economic backgrounds, women, and people in the LGBTQIA+ community, to name a few. We believe that we are better as an organization when we work to deconstruct barriers and build a team that has authentic representation from diverse communities, backgrounds and beliefs. Hence, we strongly encourage qualified candidates from those mentioned, as well as other marginalized communities, to apply for roles within our team.
