JDC is seeking a Communications Specialist to develop, implement and execute internal and external communications to the Board. This role will also closely support the Executive Office, crafting communications in the voice of the CEO.

This is a newly created role for a self-motivated individual excited to work with high-level members of an influential humanitarian Jewish nonprofit. The ideal candidate brings strong time management skills and proven excellence in communications, writing, and editing.

This role is expected to be approximately 70% Board Relations support and 30% Executive Office support. As a new position, there is a chance this balance will shift with changing needs. An adaptable candidate ready to go where needed will flourish here.

What will you do as a Communications Specialist?

Board Relations – 70%

  • Work with the AEVP of Board Relations and with Marcom to develop a comprehensive communications plan for the Board of Directors
  • Coordinate between Board Relations, Executive Office, Marketing and Communications, Resource Development and other JDC departments to ensure alignment of communication messages and strategies
  • Create and disseminate internal and external communications materials to the board, including correspondence, articles, newsletters, memos, talking points, blog posts etc.
  • Staff Board meetings as needed with fellow Board Relations team members, including but not limited to taking minutes, assisting with set-up and take-down, and running registration

Executive Office – 30%

  • Learn the written voice and editorial preferences of the CEO, able to write with his patterns and language
  • Work with the Executive Office to develop key communications from the CEO and the President to internal and external partners, including donors, board members, foundations, and community leaders

What qualifications do you need to be our Communications Specialist?

  • Undergraduate Degree or higher required
  • 2+ years of professional experience in communications, marketing, media or other relevant field strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated skill in effective verbal, written and digital communication
  • Ability to tailor written communications for different formats and voices
  • Excellent time-management skills, with ability to work well under pressure
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with ability to work well with colleagues as well as lay leaders, professionals and donors
  • Knowledge of international and Jewish affairs, culture, traditions, and history a plus
  • Passion for humanitarian work and/or global Jewish service strongly preferred

What are the compensation and benefits for a Communications Specialist?

  • This a full-time, salaried position paid bi-weekly. This role is non-exempt per the FLSA.
