POSITION TITLE: Program Mentor Hastings House Congregate Program) 

 Hours: Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm. Some evening hours may be required

 

 

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: The Program Mentor for Shelter Living and Placement is a member of a dynamic team of mentoring staff working with participants in our congregate shelter serving 58 women and their young children as they work to increase self-sufficiency and move on to stable housing. Utilizing EMPath’s Mobility Mentoring model, the Program Mentor, as part of this team, is responsible for supporting shelter participants in obtaining permanent housing and making progress towards goals related to economic self-sufficiency. Utilizing EMPath’s program model, the Program Mentor is responsible for supporting shelter participants in obtaining permanent housing and making progress towards goals related to economic self-sufficiency. Services are provided at the Hastings House congregate program. Mobility Mentoring training is provided.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF THE JOB:

  • Conducts assessments to identify each family’s strength’s and needs and establishes individual mobility goals and monitor progress.
  • Promotes economic independence among women living in our program by offering individualized basic skills training, education, and career guidance.
  • Assists participants through problem solving, direct support, intervention, de-escalation and mediation as necessary.
  • Utilizes a trauma sensitive, coaching, and child-centered orientation in work with participants.
  • Ensures participant adherence to Department of Housing and Community Development (DCHD) contractual requirements, such as orienting new participants to shelter, developing re-housing plans, intake/annual/exit assessments, assisting guests to eliminate barriers to housing and employment and housing search.
  • Ensures proper referrals are made in collaboration with internal and external resources, and adherence to shelter policies and procedures. 
  • Follows all EMPath and DHCD policies and procedures.
  • Timely and accurate completion of service documentation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

V.       KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

 

  1. Basic knowledge of case management principles and community resources.
  2. Basic understanding of coaching and mentoring practices and skills
  3. Cultural competency and ability to establish effective professional relationships with diverse group of clients.
  4. Knowledge of homelessness, housing subsidies, and other housing issues.
  5. Strong mediation, negotiation, verbal and written communication skills.
  6. Ability to handle a variety of assignments and have the flexibility to work some evenings if necessary.
  7. Strong organizational skills and high level of attention to detail.
  8. Excellent Microsoft Office skills.

 

 

VI. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: 

 

Bachelor’s Degree in a related field preferred

One to three years of Case Management/Housing Search experience.   .  

Bilingual-Spanish or Haitian Creole preferred.

          

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

Requires prolonged sitting, some bending, stooping and stretching. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and other office equipment. Work is performed in an office environment and congregate residential setting. May require attendance at off-site meetings related to service provision and housing search. May require some evening hours. Work can be fast paced.
