The Communications and Outreach Coordinator will contribute to the development and execution of organization-wide internal communications, manage the organization’s social media presence, and oversee program outreach and volunteer recruitment of key programs. In addition to supporting communication efforts, this position will specifically manage the outreach and marketing efforts for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP-Northern Virginia). This program works to recruit, place, and support AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers (age 55+) in impact- focused service opportunities supporting local non-profit and government organizations in Fairfax County, Arlington County, and the city of Alexandria.
This position reports to the Communications Director and RSVP Program Manager. The commitment is 40 Hours/Week or full-time. Organizational hours are 9am-5pm Monday through Friday with the occasional weekend days. Currently Volunteer Fairfax is currently working remotely but eventually will be back onsite in a hybrid model. Most often in person activities will be at the Volunteer Fairfax office but can vary based on work.
Monitors all Volunteer Fairfax social media channels, answering comments and direct messages according to communications guidelines.
Executes against overall Volunteer Fairfax communications strategy and tactical communications calendar.
Responsible for ongoing strategic and analytics review of Volunteer Fairfax communications channels in cooperation Communications Director.
Creates content and posts to all Volunteer Fairfax social media channels.
Create, development content and design supporter emails.
Assists with content, design, and publishing of event and program collateral materials.
Writes and distributes press releases.
Creates and manages annual communications calendar.
Creates content calendar for all communications channels.
Monitors media outlets and online services for Volunteer Fairfax mentions and relevant content information.
Coordinates and produces staff communications efforts in cooperation with the Communications Director.
Recruit, train, and manage volunteers to support outreach efforts in Fairfax, Alexandria, and Arlington.
Maintain a calendar of outreach opportunities
Track progress toward achieving goals for volunteer recruitment.
Represents Volunteer Fairfax at public events - relevant community meetings, outreach and recognition programs.
Manage the branding requirements of the AmeriCorps Seniors program, including voice, tone, and messaging.
Manage virtual communications, messaging, engagement, and interviews of volunteers and/or workstation partners.
Collaborate with staff to identify potential program support and provide writing support for grant applications.
Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills Require - (Minimum education and experience needed to perform the job adequately):
Degree in communications or related field.
Exceptional written communications for a variety of platforms.
Proficient in producing infographics, charts, and visual stories.
Proficient in MS Office and Adobe Creative Suite.
Proficient WordPress CMS and basic HTML.
Familiarity with Constant Contact and CRM’s.
Some VF events and activities require physical effort such as lifting and moving project supplies (up to 50 lbs.) and standing for long periods of time.
As some VF activities require offsite work, must have a valid driver’s license and access to an
automobile for local travel; may also need to be able to drive a cargo van or light truck.
The salary for this position, which is dependent on experience, ranges from $40,000-$42,000.
