SquashWise seeks a motivated, mission-driven professional for the position of College & Career Success Coordinator at SquashWise, Baltimore’s squash and education program. This is an exciting opportunity for candidates with a passion for youth development, experience with college/career access pathways, guidance counseling, or social work, and strong program coordination skills.

About SquashWise: SquashWise is a long-term support system creating opportunities for aspiring youth in Baltimore. We help students realize their academic, athletic, and personal potential by combining academic support and mentoring with coaching in the racquet sport of squash. We operate a year-round Out-of-School-Time program for middle and high school students, and provide ongoing support for our alumni through age 25. SquashWise is a member of the national Squash + Education Alliance, a network of peer programs in 22 cities with standards of excellence for sports-based youth development programming.

Position Description: The College & Career Success Coordinator is a key member of our team and actively involved in day-to-day programming. From conducting college/career exposure events for middle schoolers, to teaching lessons on college readiness skills to high schoolers, to providing individualized guidance and hands-on support to our juniors, seniors, and alumni as they set and achieve post-secondary goals, the College & Career Success Coordinator is responsible for designing and implementing a multi-year curriculum of structured activities and personal development experiences to ensure all SquashWise students are prepared for life success. This position is expected to build on and improve existing program offerings, especially in the domain of alumni support, as SquashWise continues to serve larger cohorts of students. In addition to the specific duties of the role, this position contributes across all aspects of our multi-dimensional youth development program and non-profit organization (e.g. general administrative tasks, assisting with annual events, etc.).

Qualifications: The most important prerequisites for this position are the desire and interpersonal skills to build long-term, collaborative relationships with SquashWise students of all ages (6th grade through age 25) and their families. Candidates should have at least 1-3 years experience working directly with youth and/or young adults in an educational or mentoring capacity, as well as excellent communication, organization, and time management skills. This position is responsible for meeting specific grant deliverables for activities and outcomes, in addition to following best practices for college/career readiness.

Priority will be given to candidates with significant prior experience in implementing college/career readiness and access strategies, who have worked successfully with youth who experience challenging circumstances (e.g. limited income, first generation to pursue higher education), and/or who have personal lived experience successfully navigating such barriers.

Job Responsibilities: Include but are not limited to:

  • College Exposure: Plan fun and engaging events that introduce students to college and career pathways, including guest presenters and campus/workplace visits.
  • College/Career Preparation: Encourage students’ personal development and college/career readiness skills through classroom lessons and experiential learning opportunities: independent projects, service learning, internships, summer enrichment.
  • College/Career Access: Guide individual students and their families through the post-secondary planning process, using a goal-oriented approach to match students to educational and career placements that fit their readiness and interests. Provide ongoing, hands-on assistance with all stages and steps, including application, financial aid and scholarships, selection, and enrollment.
  • Alumni Support: Maintain active engagement with all SquashWise alumni through regular check-ins, in-person visits, and organized events. Provide ongoing encouragement, guidance, and direct assistance to support alumni in achieving post-secondary stability and success.
  • Program Coordination and Development: Maintain accurate records of student performance and progress, using data to inform and evaluate program effectiveness. Actively communicate with families, schools, SEA, partner organizations, and other stakeholders. Develop and lead specific programming initiatives in response to observed, expressed, and emerging needs. Grow new skills and competencies as needed; SquashWise provides ongoing professional development experiences for all staff.

Requirements:

  • Availability to work full-time during the week and some weekends. Regular hours are weekdays from 10am-7pm, some Saturdays from 12-4pm, and occasional weekend trips. Summer Camp hours are 8am - 4pm (5 weeks, July/August).
  • Availability to chaperone occasional weekend trips for college visits, squash tournaments, and other student experiences.
  • Associate’s Degree required, Bachelor’s or higher preferred.
  • At least 1-3 years prior professional experience in youth development, education, or non-profit organization. 5+ years’ experience strongly preferred.
  • Current driver’s license with at least 3 years of driving experience; clean driving record.
  • Pass a criminal history background check.
