We’re looking for a Communications Coordinator to raise our visibility and tell our story.
The Coalition Against Hunger has been an anti-hunger leader in the Philadelphia region for over two decades, building a regional movement to end hunger. The Coalition utilizes a holistic approach to alleviate hunger by providing immediate relief by connecting people with food resources and through our support of food pantries and soup kitchens; short-term relief by helping thousands of people annually navigate the SNAP application process; and long-term systemic change through our extensive and impactful advocacy and education efforts.
The Communications Coordinator plans and implements all marketing, communications, and media outreach initiatives including;

Communications/Marketing

●       Draft, collaborate on, and implement a comprehensive communications plan that includes digital marketing (email blasts, social media, website) and public relations with the goal of expanding brand awareness and engaging potential clients, as well as supporters.

●       Design/oversee the development and execution of a Coalition Against Hunger brand guideline for all print and electronic materials, including, but not limited to: brochures, annual reports, executive briefs, website and social media, newsletters (print and digital), fundraising campaign materials, blog posts, posters, press releases, flyers, event invitations, and Race Against Hunger team pantry pages.

●       Compose and submit press releases, and informational data pertaining to The Coalition’s programs, special events, promotions, new Board and team members, awards, and overall building of the brand for the organization with media organizations.

●       Create a social content calendar to execute The Coalition’s social media presence on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn, with a strong emphasis on visual content and video.

●       Continuously engage with The Coalition’s social media audience across all platforms by responding to comments, sharing posts tagging the organization and generating posts that promote feedback and positive interaction from followers.

●       Design benchmarks and goals for social media engagement, both short-term and long-term, as well as strategies and tactics for meeting said goals.

●       Regularly review market research and industry trends for social outreach and building awareness with new audiences and make adjustments to our marketing activities, as needed.

●       Ensure Race and Gala sponsors receive the social media and website benefits of their sponsorship level.

●       Maintain and update the Coalition website on a regular basis to ensure accurate information and easy access of multiple audiences.

●       Manage the Communications and Race Against Hunger email inboxes and field inquiries to appropriate team members.

●       Ensure messaging is consistent across all platforms and up-to date including the website.

●       Cultivate relationships with Philadelphia area reporters, editors, and other media representatives (print, radio and tv) to secure news coverage that will further develop and broaden CAH’s mission and impact as a hunger relief leader in the Philadelphia region.

●       Monitor analytics and create reports detailing the successes and failures of communications stories, press releases, e-blasts, social media posts campaigns and strategies (ex: using Google Alerts, tracking hashtag and @mentions, monitoring inbound and outbound mentions).

Development

●       With the guidance of the Director of Development, create and execute marketing strategies for The Coalition’s Giving Tuesday Campaign, donor appeals and two signature fundraising events; The Night to Fight Hunger Gala and the Race Against Hunger.

●       With the guidance of the Director of Development, write, edit, and proofread The Coalition’s external fundraising communications, including donor appeal emails, letters, and brochures for various campaigns, special events and website content.

●       With the guidance of the Director of Development, create and customize fundraising communication tools directed towards segmented audiences, including developing impactful story ideas.

●       Create and design all marketing materials for fundraising endeavors; including, but not limited to invitations, brochures, donor reports, proposal covers, and design materials for print, web, TV, radio, newspaper and outdoor marketing. 

●       Develop an annual calendar and plan of scheduled marketing events within at least seven (7) months prior to a signature event.

Programs

●       Support our advocacy and outreach efforts by working closely with the Policy Director and Community Educator to design materials and tactics to communicate emerging and current policy issues utilizing social media, email, and all other communications tools.

●       Support our programs and SNAP Hotline by working closely with the Program and SNAP Hotline teams to develop and design materials to share program stories, create resources, and support their efforts utilizing social media, email, and all other communications tools.

Preferred Qualifications

●       Bachelor’s degree in Marketing/Communications or a related field.

●       Minimum of four (4) years of professional communications experience managing social media with exposure to marketing, public relations, and nonprofit fundraising.

●       Effective communicator and storyteller with good project management and time management skills required.

●       Strong written and verbal communication skills.

●       Ability to think creatively; outside of the box.

●       Experience working with local and/or national media and social media influencers is preferred.

●       Broad knowledge of and engagement with Philadelphia’s diverse communities and neighborhoods is preferred. 

●       Strong understanding of social media platforms including streaming on Facebook Live and creating and managing Event pages in Facebook.

●       Proactive attitude, a self-starter and multitasker with the ability to work independently and as a team player.

●       Attention to detail, highly organized with strong problem solving and planning skills.

●       Excellent knowledge of PC systems including MS Office, Canva, Hootsuite, Salsa, Salesforce, Adobe Creative Suite (including Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign), Zoom/Teams, Drupal and Squarespace website management platforms.

●       Photography and design skills a plus.
