DIY Girls’ mission is to increase girls’ interest in technology, engineering and making through innovative educational experiences. DIY Girls provides STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math)-based educational programs and workshops designed to promote girls’ engagement and exploration with technology, encourage self-confidence and support aspiration to technical careers.

Position

STEM Program Instructors serve as near-peer mentors and role models at DIY Girls and receive training to engage elementary and middle school students in creative projects that develop technical and problem-solving skills. This is a great opportunity to develop technical and leadership skills that will aid in future career opportunities.

The STEM Program Instructor will work with the Program Coordinators to ensure quality in the following areas:

  • Classroom Management and Set up
  • Equipment Management
  • Program Facilitation
  • Mentoring Students
  • Deliver engaging curriculum centered around making and creative problem solving. 

Availability 

  • August 2021 - December 2021
  • Monday - Thursdays between the hours of 1-5 PM

*DIY Girls hosts after school programs all year long, therefore we hope the instructors we hire will be interested and available to continue working with us in the Spring 2022 semester.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as an instructor to 24-30 students in the DIY Girls after school program 
  • Participate in lesson planning sessions with co-instructor
  • Guide students through the creation and troubleshooting of their hands-on projects
  • Enter attendance on a daily basis and call home for absent students
  • Other duties as assigned with a primary focus on supporting program instruction and project development

Qualifications:

All candidates should have a passion for DIY Girls’ mission, excellent organization skills, consistency and reliability. Additional qualifications include:

  • Current college student 
  • STEM major, liberal studies major, or education related major 
  • Independent, results-oriented, self-starter
  • Interest in technology, engineering, coding and hands-on DIY projects

Hourly rate: $15/hour

Benefits

This is a part‐time (up to 20 hours per week), Non-Exempt level position. Hourly rate: $15 per hour. Benefits include: Sick Time.
