Summary

As a member of the communication team, the Communications and Design Coordinator will assist with marketing and visual communications, content development to support Swords to Plowshares social media channels, copywriting, editorial support, and other administrative duties as assigned


Responsibilities

  • Works with the Communications Manager and other departmental staff to establish marketing collateral needs
  • Designs marketing collateral (flyers, brochures, fact sheets, event invitations, social media graphics) and other communications materials (newsletters, reports, guides, infographics) as needed
  • Adhere to production timelines, budget confines and deadlines set forth by the Communications Manager
  • Assist less experienced staff members with minor template-based design projects
  • Act as a brand identity steward both internally and externally
  • Photograph internal and external program events, retouching and resizing images for media output
  • Collaborate with staff across departments and external partners to collect powerful stories to share across social platforms
  • Supports Communications Manager with overall social media strategy
  • With Communications Manager, drafts mailings, blog posts, press releases and other documents
  • Provides departmental editing support as assigned
  • Distributes weekly updates to staff during weekly and bi-weekly meetings
  • Supports Communications Manager and other departments as needed

Requirements

Education

  • Undergraduate degree in communications, marketing, graphic design, advertising or related field in combination with a minimum of 2-3 years corporate and/or nonprofit experience

Experience

  • Two (2) to three (3) years of experience on a communications team, either as a designer part of an agency, freelance designer, or other relevant communications experience
  • You have a portfolio of visually consistent and relevant brand work, across various channels including email, web, mobile, and print

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and communicate effectively (both verbally and in writing) with internal and external stakeholders
  • Meticulous attention to detail; takes pride in quality of work
  • Outstanding organizational skills and demonstrated ability to meet project deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of personalities and be comfortable working with an at-risk client population, including embracing the agency’s Cultural Humility Initiative
  • Ability to fulfill essential responsibilities within what would be considered reasonable accommodations

Skills

  • Excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Products
  • Proficiency with various social media platforms
  • Proficiency with DSLR photography and photo retouching
