General Description

Blue Star Families (BSF) is seeking a Social Media Specialist who is ready to lead a group into click, follow, and engagement infamy. We need a professional who is entrenched in the social game to help navigate the best strategy for growth. You will work with a team of senior managers to develop the right momentum on Blue Star Families social platforms. The ideal candidate will showcase an in-depth understanding of major and emerging social media platforms, their participants, and how each platform can be leveraged to gain unique marketing value. We’re looking for a self-starter who is obsessed with building engaging, authentic, and provocative content to drive meaningful conversation and build awareness with the expertise to monitor, analyze and test to deliver on goals.

  • Study the organization history, culture, programs, mission, and personalities to capture the authentic voice of our social presence
  • Drive ideas and work with our Strategic Communications team to develop content and partnerships that engage an audience and grows follower base
  • Influence and inspire great social-first creative by collaborating with the executive, communications and creative teams as new content is being briefed and ideated
  • Deliver results within an agile, iterative, data-focused environment
  • Present regular updates to senior executives with confidence

 Requirements

  • Roughly 5 years of experience in a Digital Marketing role, for a mid-size to large brand.
  • Must be an expert on building followings across different social media platforms, their respective participants (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, etc.), and how each platform can be deployed in different scenarios
  • Stellar written and verbal communication, with the ability to capture and replicate an authentic voice of a brand and individual. Must have a sense of humor that will translate well online
  • Energized by a continuous stream of high-speed, high-stakes challenges. Startup experience is a big plus. Available on weekends to monitor and engage on digital platforms
  • Fascinated by understanding what drives member loyalty and participation. Ability to look at data, analyze, and draw valued insights
  • Demonstrated ability to develop social media/online community plans and drive engagement strategies that deliver results through testing, iteration, and metrics
  • Self-starter with ability to work both independently and collaboratively across teams, functions, and departments, driving alignment and managing deadlines
  • Knowledge of online community sites and groups (Reddit, Facebook Groups, etc.)
  • Experience with technology, military culture and/or government entities. Personal curiosity and knowledge of these sectors are also valued

Content Creation

  • Master the BSF voice and produce engaging photo, video, and written content for various social channels
  • Support the creation and execution of weekly social calendars that are innovative and push the envelope of what’s been done on social media
  • Work with our creative marketing management team to create content that resonates with our social audience and shares brand/product attributes and benefits in a unique way
  • Lead in-house photo and video shoots for social content

Relationship Building

  • Engage military influencer community in style-driven content creation partnerships.
  • Identify and build relationships with new digital influencers, tastemakers, and content creators

Social Strategy

  • Collaborate with the Senior Management Team to develop diverse channel strategy across all active social media platforms (with a focus on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube)
  • Analyze and distribute reports on social media performance to the internal team and regularly make recommendations, updates, and improvements based on findings

Ideal Candidate

  • 2-3 years of experience in a Content Creation role, ideally with a focus on Social Media or other short-form digital content at a consumer and/or lifestyle brand
  • Military connected experience, comfortable working with teams around the world
  • Exceptionally strong writing and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present ideas and information clearly and write in various styles for diverse audiences
  • Expert knowledge of, and personal participation in, social media
  • A can-do and collaborative approach to ideation and execution, and a willingness to roll up your sleeves
  • Strong existing relationships with key digital influencers and tastemakers
  • Excel in virtual environments
  • BA/BS or equivalent
  • Expert in Microsoft Office and Google Drive
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Salesforce
  • Social copywriting skills
  • Art Direction experience
  • Experience using Social Studio
  • Excellent project management and organization skills
  • Proficiency in analytics and data interpretation
  • Detail oriented with strong ability in written and verbal communication
  • Superb work ethic and positive, can-do attitude
  • Experience managing creative development and demanding creative excellence
  • Exceptional communication skills and a true cross-functional collaborator
  • A passion for storytelling and marketing
  • Professional acumen and demeanor
  • Other duties as assigned
