Lead Primary Montessori Teacher (3-6-year-old)

Be part of the movement of accessible Montessori education, an organization at Montessori Community School of Rhode Island as a Lead Primary Montessori Teacher. MCS RI is seeking a Lead Primary Montessori Teacher that values equity, accessibility, and diversity in education and is excited about cultivating an inclusive learning environment for the 2021-2022 school year. MCS RI, located in South Providence, is supported by a diverse community board that is actively working towards making Montessori education accessible to all. We are a growing nonprofit organization with a friendly and collegial team working closely together and can work independently when needed. Ideal candidates for this position will create a nurturing, stimulating, and welcoming environment implementing equity-focused practices and making materials to support learning for children and families. Additionally, they should have an interest and enthusiasm for Montessori pedagogy and be certified or seeking certification.

Montessori Teacher Responsibilities:

To the Child: 

Observing, guiding, supervising, and assessing children while they learn in the classroom environment.

Developing lesson plans, independent learning exercises, curricula, and methods cater to the individual child’s needs.

Creating and maintaining a safe, clean, stimulating classroom where all children feel safe and valued.

Establishing rapport and building relationships with students based on trust.

Collaborate with the school community to embed racial equity educational practices into the classroom culture and curriculum

Setting an excellent example for students and instilling good values like honesty, accountability, understanding, tolerance, respect, love, and kindness.

To the Family: 

Create and engage in ongoing forms of communication with families regarding their child’s social, emotional, and academic learning

Create opportunities for families to share their gifts and talents with the classroom community

Offer educational opportunities for families to get involved and learn about Montessori education and emergent themes in the classroom.

To the Classroom: 

Monitoring and assessing student progress and writing up reports.

Ensuring classroom supplies and equipment are available and in working condition.

Updating records on the school database and handling various other administrative tasks.

Participating in school activities and accompanying students on field trips.

Interviewing and assisting with the training of all new teachers.

To the MCS RI Organization:

Lead the classroom teaching team and delegate as appropriate to assistant teachers, subs, and/or interns

Engage in ongoing professional development

Attend weekly staff meetings and other school events outside of school time as listed in the Employment Agreement

COVID Contingency: COVID contingency/Distance learning expectation- Should MCS RI be forced to close the school building due to Covid-19, MCS RI intends to remain open and will provide virtual learning opportunities. The Lead Teacher should expect to implement distance learning plans following school-wide procedures.

Qualifications: 

Bachelor’s degree or experience commensurate with a B.A.

Primary Montessori training from an accredited AMS/AMI training center; however, candidates without Montessori training that have a proven track record of excellence in their Primary Lead Teacher role will be considered.

An ability to teach groups of children of varying ages, needs, and abilities

The ability to multitask, keep calm under pressure, and treat everyone with love and respect

Spanish Language Fluency a plus, but not required

Exhibit excellent classroom management skills

Demonstrate creative and collaborative problem solving and critical thinking

Ability to bring a diverse set of interests to the school community

Excellent planning and organizational skills
