Job Description

Director, Young Voices for the Planet

Location: Virtual

Young Voices for the Planet, a 501 c 3 non-profit organization, seeks a Director with a passion for environmental literacy and justice to inspire youth, educators and the public to take action on climate change by amplifying youth solutions.

Who We Are/ Background:

The Mission of Young Voices for the Planet (YVFP) is to inspire young people to take an essential role in informing society about the realities of the climate crisis, mitigating global warming emissions, and catalyzing change. Since they will bear the brunt of climate disruption, YVFP empowers youth directly through our Young Voices for the Planet films which document success stories of youth, age 9-16, promoting climate solutions in their homes, schools, and communities while addressing social and environmental justice.

The Young Voices for the Planet films have been featured on the websites of National Geographic, PBS Learning Media, the UN Foundation, National Wildlife Federation and the U.S. Forest Service (ClimateChangeLIVE). Although they are too young to vote, the youth in our films are changing laws, changing minds, and changing society. Their stories melt adult hearts and inspire other youth to speak out and make a difference. To support educators, YVFP offers a Civic Engagement and Democracy Curriculum, as well as presentations and workshops.

The YVFP project is based on psychological research that highlights the importance of focusing on hope and action rather than doom and gloom. The YVFP films and curriculum have proven to be extremely effective in abating young people’s fears of climate change and developing their self-efficacy by demonstrating how they can be part of the solution. Our Civic Engagement and Democracy Curriculum brings these assets to the classroom and has been incorporated into many of our partners’ programs.
