New Alternatives for Children, Inc. (NAC) is an award-winning not-for-profit agency in Midtown Manhattan, with a satellite Bronx office, dedicated to serving children and families with medical complexities, chronic illnesses, and disabilities throughout the five boroughs. To assist in achieving this mission, NAC is currently seeking a Prevention Supervisor Floater to join its Special Medical Prevention Program.

 The Prevention Supervisor Floater will alternate between providing supervision and case coverage in our Manhattan and Bronx locations.* Supervision will include clinical and administrative oversight and professional leadership to a team of master’s level social workers and mental health counselors. Periodic case coverage will allow for continuity of services and more seamless transitions when staff exit the program. Based on programmatic need, the Supervisor Floater will be expected to supervise and/or provide case coverage according to one of the following five scenarios:

  • Supervise 3-4 master’s level staff and 1 case associate
  •  Supervise 2 master’s level staff, 1 case associate, carry 2 cases
  •  Supervise 1 master’s level staff, 1 case associate, carry 4 cases
  • Supervise 1 master’s level staff, carry 6 cases
  • Carry 8-9 cases

Program: Special Medical Preventive Services

Description of Responsibilities:

  • Provide clinical and casework supervision for 3-4 master’s level social workers/mental health counselors and a case aide.
  • Accompany staff into the field for intakes and other visits as needed. 
  • Periodically shift from supervising staff to carrying a caseload of up to 8-9 families when staffing vacancies occur. 
  • Participate in Planning, Elevated Risk, and Child Safety Conferences as needed. 
  • Completion of supervisory documentation including monthly case review notes and professional development logs in accordance with ACS guidelines.
  • Complete staff evaluations in accordance with agency policy.
  • Ensure that progress notes, FASP/service plans, case forms and monthly statistics are timely, complete, and in compliance with NAC and ACS requirements.
  • Monitor and ensure staff training and development.
  • Maintain a collaborative relationship with ACS, referral sources, and community resources and providers.
  • Biannual audit preparation and response. 
  • Participate in weekly Management Team Meetings and monthly Clinical and Departmental Meetings.
  • Work collaboratively with psychiatrists, psychologists, pediatricians, nurses, education specialists and fellow social workers in a dynamic, strength-based interdisciplinary team model.

Required Education and Experience

  • LCSW, LMSW or LMHC from an accredited school required
  • Supervisory experience with master’s level staff and/or students
  • Prior experience in preventive services or child welfare is preferred
  • Knowledge of city-wide community resources and housing and entitlement systems a plus

  • Excellent clinical skills
  • Self-awareness and motivation around team building
  • Flexibility and willingness to shift between job responsibilities as needed
  • Proficiency in Spanish is preferred (and includes a salary differential)
