POSITION SUMMARY:

The primary role of the Grants Manager is to provide financial and administrative support to the Global Social Service Workforce Alliance (the Alliance). The Grants Manager will bring experience in non-profit financial management and a strong interest in strengthening systems of care for children. 

DURATION & COMPENSATION:

This part-time, temporary position is for an average of 30 hours per month with a pay range of $40 to $50 per hour. This newly created position is anticipated to start in late 2020 and last approximately for 12 months. There is potential for the position to extend indefinitely. The Grants Manager may work remotely from anywhere in the United States and will receive day-to-day support from the Alliance Director. The Grants Manager will work closely with Tides Center, which acts as the fiscal sponsor of the Alliance and provides operations support such as managing accounts receivable, audits, compliance and payroll.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide logistics, administrative and operations support to ensure the smooth functioning of Alliance initiatives

  • Understand organizational goals and objectives, donor reporting requirements and fiscal sponsor policies and procedures
  • Prepare contracts, memoranda of understanding, letters of agreement and other contractual documents for partners and vendors through Tides’ system
  • Complete payment of invoices from consultants and vendors and ensure payments are charged to the appropriate accounts according to Tides’ policies and procedures
  • Review monthly general ledger entries and ensure expenses are charged to the appropriate accounts
  • Prepare and coordinate financial reports with Tides, including monthly financial reports for the Director, quarterly financial reports for the Steering Committee, quarterly grant financial reports and year-end financial reports
  • Support staff in diverse aspects of the administrative management of grants as needed

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 3 years professional experience in finance or administration in an international non-profit organization
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, project administration, non-profit management or related field
  • Experience managing budgets for international agencies or institutions funded by USAID, PEPFAR, the United Nations and other bilateral or multilaterals 
  • Experience tracking and coding expenditures against budgets in excess of $1 million
  • Experience processing consultant, service and vendor contracts
  • Experience producing organization and program budgets and financial reports for government and private funders

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Well organized, accurate and very attentive to details
  • Creative problem-solving and organizational skills in diverse environments and under pressure
  • Excellent time management, ability to understand and address financial, grant-related and budgetary issues in a short space of time
  • High level of personal organization with the ability to multitask, take initiative, and use sound judgment
  • Excellent administrative, planning and budgeting including the ability to prepare and analyze work plans and budgets
  • Strong skills in NetSuite and Microsoft Office suite, including expert use of Excel
  • A high degree of diplomatic skills: personable, flexible, sense of humor
  • Strong interest in social services or child welfare
  • Demonstrated high degree of cultural sensitivity
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English required, in terms of communicating in a timely, professional manner in person and via email
  • Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage
  • Currently eligible to work in the United States

The Global Social Service Workforce Alliance is a non-profit network of 3000 members in 143 countries and works toward a world where a well-planned, well-trained and well-supported social service workforce effectively delivers promising practices that improve the lives of vulnerable populations. The mission of the Alliance is to promote the knowledge and evidence, resources and tools and political will and action needed to address key social service workforce challenges, especially within low to middle income countries. The Alliance pursues this by:

  • Serving as a convener for an inclusive, representative network of stakeholders including government organizations, nongovernmental organizations, academic institutions, donor groups, professional associations and community practitioners to create a forum for discourse and collective learning
  • Generating knowledge and building the evidence base for effective SSWS by deriving, organizing and disseminating critical evidence-based research, resources, tools, models and best practices
  • Building capacity of humanitarian and development actors to implement strategies to strengthen the social service workforce
  • Promoting effective advocacy and stimulating an active network of workforce strengthening advocates through information sharing, collaboration, and networking
