    Description

    We are looking to hire a warm, patient, and dedicated preschool assistant teacher who will live our mission and fuel passion in the children and our community to make a positive difference every day. Potential teachers must have a strong, independent work ethic and be able to adapt quickly to a fast paced environment. Must enjoy nurturing, listening, guiding, and spending time with children.

    The preschool assistant teacher will have a schedule of 11:00am-5:30pm with a 30 min unpaid break.

    Our School:

    For over 40 years, Beatie Street Preschool and Kindergarten has offered play-based, social justice focused, full-day, year-round programming with project-based academic content. We combine various pedagogies to meet the needs of our students. We serve 15 students and their families in an intimate, home-like setting. Families are diverse in composition, ethnicity, economics, religion and gender. We value outdoor play, nature, conservation, art, and community building. We have a mixed-age classroom serving children between 3 and 6 years old. We foster a joyful, collaborative culture that values inclusivity, honesty, respect, positive social impact, parent involvement and fun.

    Our Mission:

    To nurture the next generation to be agents of change by supporting parents and children and building community power to foster social justice and advocacy.

    Job responsibilities include:

    • Oversee and support all school activities: including lunchtime and naptime/sleeping children, outdoor and indoor play
    • Supervise free-play activities independently
    • Promote and foster students self-identity and encourages independence and leadership in the classroom
    • Encourage and model conflict resolution skills, independent problem solving skills, and emotional recognition language
    • Collaborate with teachers/directors
    • Focus on engagement with children
    • Build positive relationships with parents/guardians, respecting cultural differences. Defer parent communication to supervisors when needed.
    • Maintain a welcoming, thoughtful learning environment, including housekeeping duties: dishes, vacuuming, cleaning and sanitizing materials, maintaining an organized classroom
    • Occasional diapering and bathroom assistance
    • Must be dependable, have a strong work ethic
    • Other tasks as requested by Director

    Qualifications

    • 12 Early Childhood Education (semester) units including core courses preferred, but not required
    • Minimum 6-months experience working with children in this age group
    • AA or BA preferred, but not required
    • Must be able to pass fingerprinting, background check and health/TB screening
    • Must have all vaccinations up to date
    • Current first aid/CPR certification preferred
