Job Summary


Foundation and Corporate Grants Specialist is responsible for developing, managing, and implementing corporate and foundation grant strategies to meet or exceed budget goals and expand public support of Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles (GSGLA). He/she will have the opportunity to share stories of our successes and our goals and plays a critical role in the collaborative work of the External Relations and Mission Delivery teams. He/she will serve as a leading author in some of our most strategic initiatives to build a growing culture of philanthropy with Girl Scouts and the corporate and private foundations in the Greater Los Angeles region.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Research and assess new grant opportunities that match GSGLA’s goals and objectives
  •  Work with Director to seek warm leads for cultivation and stewardship among staff and board
  •  Move corporate and foundation donor prospects along the giving path with timely identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship/reporting follow through
  • Work with Mission Delivery staff to identify funding opportunities. This requires an in-depth knowledge of the Girl Scouts Movement and business operations and strategic goals. Create accurate and compelling applications that tell our stories and articulate our plans for growth, as well as complete reports highlighting progress
  •  Build strong and productive relationships with other department staff, identify funding opportunities and enhance donor communications
  • Evaluate and refine corporate and foundation giving strategies on a weekly basis in collaboration with Director of Development
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date information in donor database
  • Track grant timelines and ensure that foundation and corporate milestones are all met by required due dates
  • Collaborate professionally with Girl Scout volunteers who present grant opportunities
  • Prepare compelling donor correspondence including letters of intent, proposals, sponsorship decks, reports, letters and emails
  • Support the acknowledgement and recognition of donors in a timely and appropriate way
  • Participate in Fund Development and External Relations meetings and serve on special committees as needed
  • Support the Director of Development with special projects as needed
  • Assist with individual giving as needed
  • Maintain courteous and professional attitude at all times
  • Other duties as assigned


Skill, Experience & Education


  • Expectation of three years of professional writing experience, preferably in a nonprofit setting
  • Experience working with volunteers
  • Highly motivated self-starter, organized and efficient in work processes
  • Willingness to support others work when needed, strength as a team player
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience with budgets and creating and presenting detailed, timely, and accurate reports
  • Ability to multi-task to meet competing deadlines
  • Ability to think creatively and problem-solve
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office required
  • Knowledge of CRM donor database systems preferred
  • Experience as a Girl Scout desirable
  • Bachelor’s degree required
