Community Connections for Youth (CCFY), Inc. is a Bronx-based non-profit organization whose mission is to empower grassroots faith and neighborhood organizations to develop effective community-driven alternatives to incarceration for youth. CCFY builds community capacity for juvenile justice reform through its model programs for youth and families in the South Bronx, and through training and technical assistance work to replicate our work nationwide.  

Position

The Training Director will have overall responsibility for implementing CCFY’s internal staff development and external training activities. The Training Director will be responsible for developing a culture of learning and growth at CCFY through internal staff training and development, including staff onboarding, team development, and individualized growth plans. The Training Director will be responsible for facilitating training, learning and development among CCFY’s local grassroots community partners through the South Bronx Community Connections (SBCC) program. The Training Director will also be responsible for managing the organization’s external training commitments and will supervise CCFY’s Training Managers. The Training Director will report to the Deputy Director of Programs.

Responsibilities 

Internal Training: 

• Lead efforts to develop a culture of learning, research, reflection and teaching within CCFY;

• Facilitate new employee onboarding, learning and skill development;

• Develop the abilities of CCFY’s direct service staff to share their expertise in a training capacity;

External Training:

• Design, develop, and implement training for the SBCC network on best practices for working with justice involved youth and collaboration between justice and community stakeholders. 

• Manage CCFY’s major external training contracts, including the ARCHES Transformative Mentoring contract, the OCFS Community Credible Messenger Initiative (CCMI);

• Supervise the team of Training Managers, Training Associates and consultants who deliver CCFY’s training and technical assistance;

• Execute CCFY’s fee-based training and technical assistance offerings (ATI Training Institute, Credible Messenger Boot Camp, Family Engagement, Gender Responsive Programming, etc.) for external stakeholders;

• Design and executive immersive learning experiences for external stakeholders that utilize the CCFY approach;

Leadership & Development:

• Assist the Training Curriculum Specialist with the creation and development of the overall process of documenting, designing and delivering an integrated CCFY training approach;

• Work with the Training Curriculum Specialist to design and implement CCFY’s Train-the-Trainer approach, to equip key partners to facilitate the CCFY training approach;

• Lead the process of developing CCFY staff, youth, family members, and community partners in becoming context experts and training specialists in their areas of strength;

Qualifications

The Training Director will be thoroughly committed to CCFY’s mission of empowering grassroots faith and neighborhood organizations, and will have demonstrated experience in youth development, alternatives to incarceration, and community capacity building, both as a practitioner and a trainer. The Training Director will have the following qualifications

• At least 5 years experience as a practitioner and trainer.

• Bachelors degree required; Masters Degree preferred.

• Unwavering commitment to justice for youth, community empowerment, social, racial, and economic justice, and youth development.

• Ability to teach, instruct, train and consult on effective implementation of alternative to incarceration programming, both on a community and a systemic level.

• Ability to hold space for both directly affected community members and justice system personnel.

• Strong organization and management skills and the ability to keep multiple projects on task.

• Demonstrated ability to facilitate the skills development of emerging leaders (youth, parents, mentors, grassroots leaders, etc.)

• Integrity in leadership marked by demonstrated track record of practicing the values of CCFY in everyday life and relationships as well as professional practice.

• Critical analysis of the different methods of learning and training through a diversity, equity and inclusion lens, as well as honoring the unique expertise of directly impacted community members.
