JOB SUMMARY:

The New-York Historical Society is seeking part time, temporary Social Learning Programs Coordinator to coordinate and oversee a robust menu of formal and informal learning programs targeting young professionals. This is a new venture for the New-York Historical Society, and the ideal candidate will approach the task with creativity, energy, and determination.


Fall programs are arranged around the upcoming Harry Potter: A History of Magic exhibition, on view October 5, 2018-January 27, 2019. The Coordinator will manage all program administration and logistics for the fall events, including coordinating with outside partners and course facilitators, liaising with various departments within the museum, and overseeing the actual events to ensure that programs are well-attended and executed smoothly. The Coordinator will also take the lead on the design and planning of future and ongoing programming for young professionals. The Coordinator must have a flexible schedule and be available to regularly work evening and weekend hours.


The position will begin in July 2018 and will end in April 2019.


EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree in history or a closely-related field required.

 

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum two years project and/or program management experience required
  • Experience in a museum setting or non-profit organization strongly preferred
  • Must be highly organized and detail oriented
  • Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Excellent computer skills required, including Microsoft Office and Google Suite, familiarity with Altru preferred

 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

Responsibilities for this position include but may not be limited to:

  • Oversee and manage the full fall calendar of Education-department adult public programs
  • Develop, plan, and execute new, mission-driven programs for young professional/millennial audiences in the winter/spring
  • Coordinate and execute logistics for all programs, including accurate calendaring, clear communication across relevant departments, materials management, and data collection and tracking
  • Provide day-of support to programs as needed, including evening and weekend hours
  • Determine and execute a formal reporting and tracking system; regularly observe programs in action and proactively collect feedback from participants to inform future program planning and improvement
  • Conduct market research to inform program design and execution, including focus groups, surveys, literature review, and review of similar programs at other institutions
  • Liaise with Communications and Development departments to market programs and cultivate audiences, including developing online and print marketing materials and creating and maintaining web page copy and content
  • Liaise with other programmatic departments to ensure harmony across all N-YHS adult program offerings
  • Manage Education adult programs communications with various stakeholders
  • Maintain program details on Altru, N-YHS’s digital booking system, immediately and accurately report attendance data
  • Closely coordinate with program facilitators to manage program content development, expectations, schedules, and paperwork
  • Provide support for Division-wide special events
  • Additional duties as requested

 

COMPENSATION:

This is a part time, temporary position compensated at $25/hour for a maximum of 24 hours/week over 35 weeks.

This position will require the employee to lift, bend, stoop, walk, speak and stand for up to 7 hours in a day.
