Description

The Lincoln Institute of Land Policy is looking for a Bilingual Project Editor (English/Spanish) to join the Publications, Communications, Learning Design, and User Experience team (PCLDUX). Our team publishes digital content, reports, books, and other products designed to help policymakers, practitioners, and the public better understand land policy challenges and solutions. As a member of the PCLDUX team, you will lead the editing and production of Spanish-language publications, manage the editing and production of English publications that have been translated from Spanish, and oversee a new effort to expand Spanish digital content. You will also support the production of our other books and reports, collaborating with project editors to help ensure that design, printing, and distribution processes are efficient and cost-effective. The PCLDUX team supports the mission of the Lincoln Institute and is committed to producing high-quality publications that reach and engage broad audiences, including a strong and growing following in Latin America and the Caribbean. This position will be based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and will be expected to work at least two days a week in the Cambridge office. Fully remote candidates will not be considered.

What You’ll Do:

Editorial and Production Management, Spanish-language content

Lead editorial, design, and production process for assigned Spanish-language titles and projects, and for English translations of Spanish-first publications.

Oversee the work of translators and work closely with bilingual colleagues and authors; you will need the editorial prowess to help ensure that translations read smoothly and that the integrity of our academic research, land policy concepts, and key terms holds up across product lines.

Lead a new effort to increase Spanish digital content, including assigning and editing articles written in Spanish, overseeing the translation of articles originally written in English, and overseeing the translation and production of Spanish email content.

In collaboration with Director of Publications, Chief Content Officer, and other colleagues, create a multi-year strategic plan for print and digital Spanish-language content that reflects and supports the Lincoln Institute’s robust program offerings in Latin America and the Caribbean and expands our reach to all Spanish-speaking audiences.

Production Management, English-language content

In collaboration with department colleagues, secure bids from designers, copyeditors, proofreaders, indexers, and printers for assigned titles and projects, evaluate the quality and pricing of current and prospective vendors, establish contract specifications for vendors (pricing, services, and schedules), and prepare contract requests.

Act as primary liaison with printers, prepare print orders, and ensure adherence to production schedules and contracted activities.

Collaborate with Graphic Designer to keep informed of advances and options in paper and printing, with a focus on sustainable processes and recycled products.

Perform photo research and secure photo permissions for assigned titles and projects.

Manage e-book production processes, including research and selecting conversion houses and aggregators; keeping informed of new technologies and opportunities; monitoring budgets; and working with colleagues to post content in appropriate formats and venues.

Administrative Responsibilities

Participate in Publications meetings, PCLDUX meetings, and Lincoln Institute staff meetings and trainings.

Collaborate with PCLDUX Project Manager to streamline and maintain editorial production schedule for use as a more accurate, user-friendly reference tool.

Implement and exercise best publishing practices to improve departmental operations with Project Manager, Director of Publications, and Chief Content Officer.

Attend conferences as needed; support Publications Marketing Associate on conference planning and preparation as needed.

Contribute to publications marketing and distribution activities, as needed.

Develop and maintain strong working relationships with in-house staff and outside collaborators.

What You'll Need:

Undergraduate and/or graduate degree(s) in Public Policy, Economics, Urban Studies, Planning, or other social science fields; and/or in English, Spanish, Communications, or Journalism.

At least seven years of experience in editing, publishing, publications production, and project management, including editing Spanish-language materials.
