Organizational Overview:

Founded in 2000, the New York City Alliance Against Sexual Assault’s (the Alliance) mission is to prevent sexual violence and reduce the harm it causes through education, research, and advocacy.

The Alliance works closely with the city’s rape crisis programs and hospitals, District Attorney’s Offices, New York Police Department, court officials and city leaders to develop and implement best practices and policies, raise public awareness, and create sustainable change for survivors. Through training, advocacy and research, the Alliance has been an active force in fighting for recognition of the magnitude of the problem of sexual violence in New York City (NYC).

Position Overview:

In 2014 the Alliance launched Project Dream, Own Tell (Project DOT), citywide youth sexual violence prevention program to engage youth from NYC’s diverse communities in a 15-18-session curriculum-based community mobilization initiative using a healthy relationship and sexual violence prevention framework. The leadership program culminates with a month-long practicum where youth go into their communities and participate in a range of community organizing activities to engage local business, families, and other youth in sexual violence prevention. The Alliance partners with community-based organizations to design and co-facilitate the curriculum in a manner that respects the participants’ community-values and strengths.

The Senior Prevention Manager will be responsible for the overall coordination of Project DOT’s prevention activities. They will be responsible for managing implementation of project activities, including partnership outreach, youth recruitment, curriculum evaluation, and program replication. The Senior Prevention Manager will work collaboratively with other Alliance staff to ensure timely and supportive project management by guiding the team on campaign timeline, strategies and content development.   They will ensure that at least 3-4 youth groups are being facilitated per semester in collaboration with the Prevention Program Coordinator. In addition, they will facilitate communication between and among the partners, consultants, funders, and the Alliance Staff to ensure that program goals and objectives are met. Additionally, the Senior Prevention Manager will be responsible for promoting the program by reaching out to schools, afterschool programs, and other potential partners. 


Specific responsibilities inherent to the position include: 

  • Oversee project management of Project DOT, including outreach to community-based organizations, working with facilitators to ensure program fidelity, program evaluation, replication, campaign delivery, community mobilization for all Project DOT groups during the year;
  • Directly supervise youth educators who support implementation of Project DOT;
  • Work collaboratively with the Prevention Program Coordinator to conduct outreach to new and existing partners;
  • Identify new youth populations and community agencies for partnership each semester;
  • Work collaboratively with the Alliance staff and evaluation consultants to make sure the curriculum is evaluated for efficacy;
  • In coordination with the Director of Programs, oversee creation of replication tools and relationship building with potential replication partners;
  • Work collaboratively with Alliance staff to ensure at least 6-8 groups are completed per calendar year with an average of 10-12 youth per group;
  • Review and update Project DOT program and communications materials, including curriculum and evaluation documents, to ensure quality program implementation;
  • Support the policy/advocacy work of the Alliance;
  • Represent the Alliance at various prevention events, conferences, coalitions and task forces as necessary;
  • Prepare all Project DOT related reports; and assist with preparing grant proposals as necessary;
  • Assist with other program activities as needed; and collaborate with Alliance staff on shared program goals.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • 5+ years of professional level training and experience working in the fields of public health, sexual violence, and/or community engagement/organizing;
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, Master’s degree preferred;
  • Demonstrated experience managing projects and supporting staff to meet common programmatic and organizational goals;
  • Prior experience working with youth from diverse communities required;
  • Demonstrated experience delivering presentations, trainings, and workshops to diverse audiences;
  • Experience and knowledge in evaluation tools and data collection methods;
  • Prior experience managing or participating in public health related social-media campaign is a plus;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Ability and desire to work both independently and collaboratively;
  • Sensitivity to the impact of sexual violence in diverse communities and the ability to articulate these concerns to various stakeholders in a sensitive and respectful manner;
  • Dedication to using a social justice, anti-oppression, anti-racist framework to carry out work. 

Compensation:

Compensation for this position is $75,000-$80,000 and includes a competitive benefits package.


Working Environment:

As the Alliance restarts operations, the organization is operating in a full-remote capacity. Once programming has fully restarted, we anticipate offering a mixture of in-person and virtual training opportunities for the communities and organizations we serve. As a result, staff will have access to flexible, hybrid work schedules, though occasional in-person meetings and training sessions will be necessary.
