The Director’s responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Lead development and implementation Ed Trust’s Resource Equity agenda, including but not limited to development of policy recommendations, research projects, and strategic partnerships with external organizations
  • Manage Resource Equity team by providing content expertise, project management, and professional development and growth opportunities
  • Write reports, briefs, and op-eds to communicate Ed Trust’s Resource Equity agenda to a broad range of audiences
  • Join leadership team of P-12 Division in guiding work-planning, fundraising, and team management
  • Working with the Director of Development, cultivate relationships with existing and prospective funders, seek new funding, and manage existing grants
  • Working with Ed Trust’s division of Partnerships and Engagement, actively support state-based equity advocates, by, for example, providing state specific data and policy analysis, testifying in legislative sessions, providing advice on draft legislation, and presenting to advocates on opportunities to enhance resource equity in their state or community
  • Represent The Education Trust with various audiences, including policymakers, journalists, educators, and advocates

Qualifications and Experience

We are looking for a combination of the following qualifications and experience:

  • At least 6 to 9 years of relevant experience (in professional and/or advanced educational environments)
  • Deep understanding of federal and state and/or local policies and practices that affect access to critical educational resources for students from low-income families and students of color, and a vision for improving these policies and practices
  • Experience in school finance is preferred but not required if the candidate has expertise in policy and practice impacting other critical education resources (e.g. access to excellent teaching, academic rigor, etc.)
  • Strong relationships with leaders in the resource equity field, or the proven ability to develop those relationships quickly
  • Demonstrated success communicating effectively with general audiences — in a variety of written and oral formats and contexts — about complex policy and practice issues
  • Excellent analytic skills and experience either using data directly to support policy development or managing analytic work of others to support policy development
  • Possession of an advanced degree (e.g., doctorate, master’s, JD, or equivalent) in public policy, education, psychology, sociology, law, or related field

Master's degree
