Northeast New Jersey Legal Services (NNJLS) has a challenging and rewarding position available in its Education and Public Benefits Law Unit for an attorney seeking to provide legal assistance to the most disadvantaged and vulnerable members of society. The position is located in the Program’s Jersey City, New Jersey office, which is within easy commuting distance from NYC and Northern New Jersey via public transportation. The attorney will provide representation in a wide variety of Education and Public Benefits Law matters, including educational placement and discipline matters, Social Security, Medicaid, SSI Disability, Unemployment Insurance, General Assistance, and others. Prior Legal Services experience or a demonstrated commitment to legal assistance for the disadvantaged is preferred. Excellent writing and oral advocacy skills are required.
NNJLS is a non-profit public interest law firm with over 75 employees providing free legal services to low-income, senior and disabled residents of Hudson, Bergen and Passaic Counties, New Jersey. NNJLS’s staff of highly experienced and dedicated attorneys provides a wide variety of civil legal assistance and advocacy for those most in need of legal representation such as victims of domestic violence, tenants facing unfair and arbitrary eviction, seniors victimized by unscrupulous creditors and clients facing many other types of legal matters.
