Stories unlock conversations we don’t often have at work, offering a safe space to address difficult topics, engage in healthy debate and nurture psychological safety. With the help of trained facilitators, colleagues from the mailroom to the C-suite practice questioning, listening and connecting – critical behaviors for continuous learning and productive collaboration.

The Role: Strategic Communications Manager

The Strategic Communications Manager will be responsible for all communications and marketing initiatives for Books@Work, to include content production, marketing collateral, thought leadership pitching, earned media outreach, newsletters, social media, website maintenance, and overall messaging and brand management. This is a B2B role. 

The Strategic Communications Manager will be able to navigate the blended world of digital marketing and classic communications and:

·      Create and implement a content strategy with multiple audiences and distribution funnels, including on site, in newsletters, and across social media channels

·      Develop and produce content for multiple audiences reflective of Books@Work’s mission, conversion goals, and audiences 

·      Design and execute cohesive and effective marketing material

·      Pitch media, conferences, and think broadly about how to expand the reputational footprint of Books@Work

·      Fully assess and act upon market landscape, competitor analysis, and share of voice

·      Manage and maintain the website, including structural updates and SEO

·      Understand keywords and algorithms; be able to incorporate keywording into social posts and website content 

·      Understand the critical role marketing and strategic communications play in a small organization and be able to champion those needs and initiatives

·      Work with the entire team, as needed, to support fundraising, including identifying and researching potential funders, and writing grant proposals

·      Work with the entire team to support areas of pressing need

Skills, Experience and Characteristics

We are looking for an entrepreneurial person who shares our commitment to lifelong learning and is excited about working in a startup environment, where each member of the team is willing to roll up his or her sleeves. We are looking for someone who enjoys being challenged, can work independently and as part of a team, and who is willing to switch gears when one approach doesn’t work. 

We are looking for someone who wants to work with us and is:

·      Intrigued and energized by the Books@Work mission and committed to making the program a success

·      Willing and able to think expansively about communications as a tool to build out a B2B sales funnel 

·      A skilled communicator and writer, comfortable with multiple messages, different media and varied audiences

·      Creative, open and entrepreneurial, willing to adjust and adapt as ideas are tested

·      Analytical, able to look at data points for analysis and decision-making

·      Scrappy, adaptable, flexible, and unafraid of failure (it will happen as we continue to grow out this new-to-the-world idea)

·      Detail-oriented and willing to pivot quickly between projects and ideas

·      Self-starter: must be comfortableworking with colleagues and partners who are not on-site

·      Comfortable with Illustrator, Photoshop, social media tools, and WordPress; open to learning new digital tools

Salary and benefits are competitive and will be tailored based on the particular experience of the applicant. This is a full-time position based in Cleveland, Ohio.
