Bennington College seeks a highly engaged program coordinator to provide administrative support to the Center for the Advancement of Public Action and the Beyond Plastics program. CAPA is a national leader in preparing undergraduates to become agents of social change and serves as a convener and creative space for designing solutions to the urgent social, political, and environmental problems of our time. Embedded within CAPA, the Beyond Plastics program is a nationwide project whose mission is to end plastic pollution by being a catalyst for change at every level of our society. The Program Coordinator serves as the first point of contact for CAPA/Beyond Plastics and thus must be an adept and effective ambassador for these highly visible programs.

The Program Coordinator manages the day-to-day operations for programs/facilities and provides administrative support to the respective program directors, faculty, staff, and students. The Coordinator plays a critical role in providing an interface between the internal/external communities and their engagement with CAPA and Beyond Plastics. The Program Coordinator handles a wide range of administrative functions—managing calendars, coordinating travel and space logistics, budgeting, organizing meetings/events, resolving building issues, handling calls/inquiries—and works to anticipate the needs of those within the office to effectively support all aspects of their work. The capacity for thoughtful communication and remarkable attention to detail are crucial. The position requires the ability to exercise good judgment in a variety of situations as well as the ability to work with good humor and grace under pressure and tight deadlines. Candidates must have demonstrated administrative experience and must have experience working effectively with a variety of people and personalities as well as possess discretion and flexibility. The position requires excellent communication/interpersonal skills, proficient computer skills (experience with Google Suite, Microsoft Office, social media) as well as the ability to work independently. A bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional administrative experience is required. The position also requires the successful completion and passing of a background check. The position works full-time during the academic term (32 weeks/year).

Bennington serves a diverse student population—inclusive of ethnic/racial minorities, international and global constituents, sexual minorities, and various social classes, among other identities. Our staff and faculty also reflect diverse backgrounds and identities. All employees are expected to be respectful and responsive to these differences in the service of building community that promotes student and employee success. Each individual (faculty, staff, and students) will be accountable for upholding these values. The College’s approach to pluralism and inclusivity—both as fields of inquiry and practice—is to prioritize flexible thought, and to invite the examination of access, value, and power through its institutional policies and areas of study. We encourage applicants from diverse realms of interest, backgrounds, experience, and accomplishment to apply.
