Position Summary:


This is the ideal position for a talented and passionate individual who has a broad interest in issues relevant to cancer research and the global cancer burden, with a particular emphasis on low-resources settings. The (Sr.) Scientific Program Administrator will work closely with AACR staff across all departments to ensure the successful implementation of AACR’s international strategic goals and objectives, and contribute substantively to its growth in scope and activities.

The individual should be familiar with AACR’s mission and activities, and possess strong analytical skills and a superb command of the English language. The ideal candidate will be someone who can thrive in a fast-paced, demanding environment.


Major Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Project Management: Oversees a growing portfolio of programs including: Scientific Meetings and Conferences; Educational Workshops; Research Fellowships and Grants; and Advocacy and Policy strategies, by coordinating with all departments within the organization to ensure steady progress towards deadlines. Works closely with the staff of the AACR Foundation to recommend new funding vehicles and maintain relationships with funders.
  • Data mining & Analytics: Collects information and keeps abreast of the programs and initiatives of other organizations around the world.
  • Writing/Copywriting: Prepares documents, including but not limited to: scientific reports, memoranda of understanding, grant applications, marketing pieces (email blasts, etc.), and blog posts.
  • Administration:
  • Coordinates along with the Director the creation and tracking of international project plans and budgets.
  • Manages the AACR’s Regional Advisory Subcommittees and reports to the International Affairs Committee on a regular basis.
  • Arranges for and participates in meetings and conference calls, and drafts meeting reports and minutes.
  • Participates in the development of relevant sections of the AACR Annual Report;
  • Maintains comprehensive Website information.
  • Maintains accurate archival records.
  • Supervises the work of any staff assistants, and contributes to their professional development.
  • Performs other essential tasks and duties required of the position in order to support the Director as needed.


Education Requirements:


  • Doctoral degree in the life sciences with a track record of papers in peer-review journals


Essential Knowledge and Skills:


  • Experience and expertise with work in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs)
  • At least 3 years (5 for the Senior position) of relevant administrative experience in a multi-project environment
  • High motivation with excellent judgment and well-developed analytical abilities
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, and written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to perform work independently with appropriate consultation
  • Ability to work with flexibility, efficiency, enthusiasm, and diplomacy, both individually and as part of a team effort in a fast-paced work environment
  • Demonstrated track record of working collaboratively in a team-oriented, demanding environment
  • Strong sense of professional and personal ethics
  • Ability to work after regular business hours to accommodate communications with U.S. headquarters


Technical Competencies & Special Skills:


  • Fluency in a foreign language (e.g., Spanish, French, Portuguese …) will be a plus
  • Ability to travel nationally and internationally, as required.
