The Public Health Nutritionist will be part of the SNAP-ED II Team which engages with pantries, schools, community based organizations, senior centers to provide nutrition education and policies, systems, and environmental changes that aim to create access to healthy foods and improve health outcomes in low income communities. The Public Health Nutritionist is responsible for the day-to-day implementation of key SNAP-ED II projects including participating in NY Common Pantry wellness initiatives, CSA initiatives and FVRx initiatives and Direct Nutrition Education. The Public Health Nutritionist is expected to be a key leader in the community and provide sound Nutrition Education and PSE Programming according to the SNAP-ED II Contract and Goals. The Public Health Nutritionist is responsible for planning activities, events, workshops, and producing outputs that will lead to a healthier food environment, focusing on serving the SNAP population. This job is a full-time, non-exempt position. Extensive travel on public transit is required (a monthly MetroCard is covered by our grant).


Job Responsibilities

●       Plan, develop and implement SNAP-ED II Nutrition Education and PSE Activities throughout Upper Manhattan and the Bronx area.

●       Lead all aspects of preparation, implementation, instruction and take-down for all assigned SNAP-ED activities and meetings.

●       Lead in the coordination of community outreach and partnership development with organizations to implement SNAP-ED II Activities throughout South Bronx and Upper Manhattan.

●       Initiate and engage in communication with community partners about SNAP-ED II Activity scheduling and organization.

●       Ensure that there is adequate supply and materials for each activity.

●       Initiate and engage in communication with community partners about class scheduling and organization.

●       Ensure that all attendance records and reporting methods are completed accurately.

●       Supervise academic interns, providing support and instruction to ensure that expectations are set appropriately; and goals and objectives are being met.

●       Collaborate with the Nutrition Education/PSE Team on the organization and implementation of SNAP-ED II activities within each project.   

●       Provide SNAP-ED II activities monthly to program sites throughout Upper Manhattan and the South Bronx to meet monthly and annual SNAP-ED II Goals.

●       Complete data entry and submit monthly reports on Nutrition Education and PSE activities to the Senior Program Manager.

●       Assist with data collection, organization, and data entry and ensure proper data collection techniques are used in acquiring evaluation data and ensure the integrity and validity of the data is secure.

●       Participate in required meetings, including SNAP-Ed required meetings, and weekly team meetings.

●       Plan and organize work responsibilities according to priorities developed with immediate supervisor.

●       Work both independently and collectively to effectively collaborate with LIVE HEALTHY! team members, community and school staff.

●       Collaborate with other programs throughout our NY Common Pantry to develop interdepartmental program objectives to increase the stability and health of our pantry community.

●       Coordinate NY Common Pantry’s Thanksgiving and Holiday Toy distribution in collaboration with all agency programs.

●       Collaborate on other program related or agency related activities as needed as assigned by the Senior Program Manager

●       Communicate frequently and professionally with all team players and have a solution-oriented approach to program planning.

●       Work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as scheduled.


Required Qualifications:

●       Bachelors in Nutrition, Food Science, Community Health, Public Health, Public Policy, or related field required.

●       Spanish/Mandarin Proficiency strongly preferred

●       Strong public speaking skills and group facilitation skills

●       Experience in Community outreach and Program Management preferred;

●       Experience evaluating staff performance;

●       Punctual and reliable; Honest and trustworthy; Respectful and diplomatic; flexible and proactive and demonstrate a solid work ethic.

●       Must have great professional communication skills and be eager to give, and receive feedback in a professional and thoughtful manner. 

●       Ability to meet acceptable background check standards.

●       Ability to work independently and to effectively collaborate with SNAP-EDD II team members, community and school staff.

●       Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.

●       Ability to carry supplies and equipment, climb stairs, with or without reasonable accommodation.

●       Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.

●       Ability to facilitate programming with diverse populations and age ranges. Must be culturally sensitive and proficient in health literacy skills.

●       Ability to problem-solve, be resourceful and can drive projects from planning to completion with minimal supervision.
