Job Description:

Under the direction of the Center Director, the Academic Advisor provides educational services and support to program participants. Advisors are responsible for promoting services and providing key support to students.  They also provide support to the coordinator including assistance in developing/updating program materials, managing and collecting activity evaluations, cultivating and maintaining relationships with participants, tutors, parents and school staff. 

  • Provide guidance and educational services to students
  • Meet regularly with students to review academic progress and develop short-term goals. 
  • Develop recommendations based on weekly discussions with students to best address challenges they may be facing; develop or provide resources on how to ensure academic success. 
  • Work with students to develop mid and long-term goals relating to their academic challenges and college aspirations 
  • Provide participants with academic advising and planning; career awareness and assessment; information about post-secondary options, college entrance examination, and financial aid; and assistance with the application process. 
  • Assist students with college applications including essay writing 
  • Work with students on scholarship applications, and assist them with financial aid applications 
  • Chaperone students on field trips and activities outside of normal working hours 
  • Work on summer programming as assigned  
  • Monitor grades and course registration to ensure students remain in good academic standing 
  • Maintain student program files and maintain accurate; complete records 
  • Document student participation in program activities 
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the director/manager 

Requirements: 

Bachelor’s degree required in education or related field; experience overcoming barriers

similar to those confronting the target population preferred. Bilingual (English/Spanish), Valid NM driver’s license, reliable transportation. Must pass APS background check.
