Tandem, Partners in Early Learning is looking for a new Development and Community Engagement Associate to join our team. Reporting to the Director of Development and External Relations, this position supports development and communications operations, conducts corporate volunteer events, and produces content and design across print, email, social media, and other channels. This is a hybrid in-office/remote position that will require periodic travel between our San Francisco office and various Bay Area corporate offices to facilitate StoryBlocks volunteer engagements.  

Who You Are

  • The ideal candidate has a passion for enabling the growth and success of our small organization through creative and strengths-based communications and equity-minded fundraising practices
  • Experienced in a comparable role or volunteer position performing similar job functions
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Eye for design and detail 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and design software (such as Adobe Creative Suite or Canva)
  • Familiarity with customer relationship and donor management software; willingness to learn Salesforce administration through on-the-job training
Specific Responsibilities will Include 

Development

  • Support with creation of fundraising language and collateral
  • Process donations from individuals, prepare and send acknowledgement letters
  • Support Salesforce administration
  • Support with planning and implementation of 1-2 annual fundraising and donor engagement events 

Communications

  • Work with Development and Communications Manager to implement our communications and marketing strategy with a focus on social media
  • Support the design of development collateral (eg. one-pagers, annual report, Powerpoints, etc.)
  • Media asset management: organize and source photos and stories for internal and external use, support with simple video editing for use in fundraising and communications 

Corporate and Community Engagement

  • Lead corporate volunteering program, Storyblocks, driving towards annual revenue goal of $35,000+, coordinating and executing corporate volunteering events
  • Track and coordinate Tandem’s presence at key public convenings that address early childhood education

Physical Requirements for the Role

This position is primarily located in an office environment. Able to meet the following requirements with or without accommodation:

  • Able to operate a computer, keyboard and mouse for entirety of shift
  • Communicate in clear speaking voice in person, before large audiences and over audio or video-based communications applications (e.g. phone, Zoom)
  • Able to occasionally lift 35lbs with assistance
  • Able to work occasional special events, weekends and evenings according to Tandem’s event schedule
  • Ability to meet current COVID-19 Requirements including providing proof of full COVID-19 vaccination prior to start of employment;
  • Possess a clear background history with no barriers to working with children
  • Access transportation to local events or meetings

Tandem, Partners in Early Learning is a nonprofit organization working at the intersection of social justice and early childhood education. Our mission is to co-create equitable, high-quality early learning experiences for children ages 0-5 that are tailored to community needs and draw from community strengths.

We do this through our flagship book rotation program, StoryCycles, in over 800 Bay Area classrooms, as well as through family and educator workshops, play groups, book giveaways, and other initiatives throughout Alameda, Contra Costa, and San Francisco counties.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a regular, full-time non-exempt overtime eligible position scheduled to work forty (40) hours per week, Monday through Friday during regular business hours. The pay range for this position is $28.85 - $31.25 per hour ($60,000 - $65,000 annualized). Tandem offers a competitive compensation package that includes:

  • Medical, Dental and Vision: Tandem pays 100% for employees and contributes 50% towards dependent premiums
  • Generous Paid Time Off benefits including 10 vacation days, 10 sick days, and 20 paid holidays including paid time off between Christmas and New Years’ Day and the week of July 4th in the summer
  • Eligibility to participate in 401(k) plan after 90 days of service
  • Employer-paid short-term & long-term disability benefits
