•   The First Book Marketplace

•   First Book Research & Insights (R&I)

•   First Book Accelerator

About the position: The Network Engagement department focuses on the growth, engagement and support of the First Book Network of educators and programs serving children in need. As part of that support, First Book works with the foremost thought leaders and researchers in the education sector to repackage evidence-based best practices into concrete, actionable, digestible, and ready-to-use resources, specifically designed to support educators working with children in need, and built in direct response to Network need and feedback. First Book then uses its megaphone to distribute these newly created resources to those who need them most. The Managing Editor, Accelerator position oversees the content creation process, including the writing, editing, design, formatting, video production and translation required to bring these resources to life. This role works with the field-leading experts/researchers and a cadre of external writers, designers, and producers. This role provides the technical expertise and guidance about how the First Book Network absorbs and uses these resources, project manages the process and budget from creation to distribution and serves as the final copy editor to ensure the highest quality product. Examples of current Accelerator resources can be found here.

As part of this role, the Managing Editor, Accelerator has three primary responsibilities:

1)   “Guru”/external resource relationships management

2)   Content editor extraordinaire – Must be able to absorb external content/research and tools, identify the most salient aspects of this work, and give clear direction to external contractors to repackage those salient best practices for the First Book Network. This often involves writing, rigorous copy editing, fact checking, and a good design and production eye.

3)   Project management – As First Book’s Accelerator resources are often underwritten as part of a larger funded project, there are often funder deadlines and expectations that must be set and met, and a project budget must be maintained.

This position is currently a 25-30 hour per week position based on the current Accelerator workload and funding but can grow into a full-time role as the demand for and amount of funded Accelerator resources grows.
