ACT Now is seeking a driven candidate with a dedicated interest in positive youth development for a full time staff position starting in September 2018. ACT Now is a statewide coalition that advocates for quality and affordable afterschool programming. We are the C. S. Mott Foundation-funded Statewide Afterschool Network, and we have a counterpart in all 50 states. Our offices are based in Chicago, IL in the Loop.

The purpose of this position is to foster continuous quality improvement in the afterschool space in order to increase positive youth outcomes through quality improvement and professional development activities. The Quality and Professional Development Specialist is responsible for coordinating and managing all aspects of quality improvement projects and working closely with the Executive Director of ACT Now and ACT Now project partners, to expand the Quality Improvement work. Applicants to this position should have excellent communications skills, a strong work ethic, an ability to take direction and work independently, enthusiasm, and a background in youth development, quality improvement, evaluation, or professional development.


  • Ongoing training and technical assistance to ensure high quality data reporting and submission
  • Project timeline organization and implementation
  • Communicate, coordinate, and facilitate meetings
  • Monitor program and site-level data entry throughout the year
  • Monitor and manage IL Quality Program Self-Assessment (IL-QPSA) customer service support, needs and recognition
  • Develop outreach, engagement, monitoring and expansion of Pledge To Quality, IL Afterschool Standards, and IL Top Ten Quality Standards
  • Direct coordination and implementation of all Quality webinars and professional development opportunities
  • Plan and execute quality improvement trainings statewide
  • Work with state agencies to track and monitor quality improvement and professional development activities
  • Assist in planning and executing the work of the ACT Now Professional Development Committee and the ACT Now Quality Assurance, Outcomes, and Evaluation Committee
  • Manage methods for data collection for all quality tool, resources, and initiatives
  • Create and distribute monthly data reports for specific stakeholders and partners for the purpose of accountability, quality, progress and need
  • Provide administrative support to ACT Now team as designated by supervisor
  • Support ACT Now events
  • Promote the ACT Now team in all communications and outreach efforts


  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience in the afterschool, out-of-school time, and/or the youth development field
  • Strong interpersonal skills, enthusiasm for working with a broad cross-section of stakeholders, and ability to motivate coalitions while helping move their work forward are critical
  • Familiarity with out-of-school time best practices, quality improvement, or evaluation preferred
  • Experience leading trainings preferred
  • Experience working within a nonprofit environment that utilizes proficient writing skills
  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in child and youth development, education, public administration, social work or a related field
  • Ability to travel across the state as needed
