International Education (IE) is the department at Shoreline Community College that oversees international student outreach, orientation, partnerships, immigration, academic advising, and study abroad programs. IE is committed to helping all students achieve cross-cultural experiences and academic successes during their time at Shoreline.

Under the general direction of the Student Engagement Manager, the Program Assistant is responsible for providing direct support to students, prospective students, partners, and community on a daily basis in the IE department. This position serves as the first point of contact for department inquiries received by phone, e-mail, and in-person, and primarily works at the front desk in a dynamic team setting. The Program Assistant actively connects and triages with appropriate resources and staff within and outside IE and meets with students in-person or in-group to provide information regarding departmental activities. The position represents, contributes, and participates in departmental and campus events in support of IE.


  • Assist students, staff, program participants, and the public with information and interpretation of College processes, policies, and activities related to International Education services
  • Serve as the first point of contact for all incoming program traffic and inquiries, referring to appropriate resources, actively connect, triage, and act as a conduit between staff in different areas of the department and clients to facilitate seamless services
  • Participate in and assist with IE and campus-wide events under the Campus Internationalization initiative
  • Perform complex word processing tasks; develop, implement, and maintain student database systems and records; compile an distribute resources/handouts for reoccurring program activities
  • Provide assistance with maintaining files, ordering office supplies, print requests, and other office support functions
  • Perform other duties as assigned of a similar nature/level

  • High school graduate and two (2) years of full-time clerical experience OR equivalent education/experience


  • Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint as well as electronic record management systems
  • Complex word processing tasks such as merging, sorting, integrating text with graphics, and use of graphics


  • Fostering a climate of equity and belonging through multicultural awareness and competence
  • Working with diverse groups of students, staff, and the public in a friendly, courteous and helpful manner
  • Serving diverse student populations, including historically underrepresented minorities, first generation, low-income, breadth of age range, students with disabilities, veterans, and international students
  • Database entry and retrieval with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Multi-tasking, time management, and coordination of competing priorities and deadlines
  • Adapting easily to changing business needs, conditions and project deadlines
  • Utilizing technology and available resources when disseminating program information to others
  • Writing/editing/proofreading clear and concise materials resulting in effective oral and written communication with individuals inside and/or outside of the College
