Reporting to, and working closely with, the Director of Program Implementation, the Coordinator will have supervisory responsibilities, as well as additional administrative responsibilities, within CHIL’s Residential Program. This position will oversee Residential during the evening, directly supervises staff, handles youth issues as well as taking a lead role in implementing new programs, shepherding the professional development of staff, and ensuring policies and procedures are being followed.


Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Meets the day-to-day needs of the team, including regular and meaningful supervision, schedules, appraisals, team meetings, and case conferences.
  • Assists the Director and takes the lead on hiring interviews, onboarding, trainings, and any other human resources needs of the Youth Shelter.
  • Conducts team meetings monthly to review program operations.
  • Conducts weekly case review with Case Managers.
  • Appropriately and clearly express expectations to team.
  • Oversee monitoring and accountability of residential programs staff.
  • Responds and assist team during crisis situations.
  • Leads Shift Transition daily.
  • Collaboratively creates and maintains a safe and healthy sanctuary for all youth in the program.
  • Utilize de-escalation and crisis management skills to assess and diffuse volatile situations.
  • Ensures and integration and coordination between program efforts to maximize positive results within and between program areas.
  • Develops and maintain positive and strategic relationships with internal and external colleagues, partners and stakeholders.
  • Implements and tracks on-going training and professional development for team members.
  • Effectively utilizes data and information systems to evaluate programs, inform decision-making and develop performance strategies.
  • Assists in managing and monitoring the progress and performance of all program contracts and grants.
  • Serve as Manager on Duty (MOD).
  • Ensure adequate coverage for all operating shifts.
  • Effectively plans and manages budget and fiscal processes and ensures integrity of all fiscal practices.
  • Represent program at planned events.
  • Coordinates onboarding of all new staff.
  • Openness to grow and learn.


  • Must have knowledge of human service delivery systems, residential care and resources for youth population.
  • Must possess strong multi-tasking skills with demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects at once.
  • Excellent collaborative and organizational abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Possesses expert knowledge and experience working directly with young people through approaches that emphasize resiliency, strength based youth development, and trauma informed care.

  • Commitment to Covenant House’s mission to serve homeless youth.


  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology or a related field preferred.
  • At least 3 years of experience working with diverse groups.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Overall flexibility in work schedule to be present for both youth and staff at key times, including weekends, evenings and holidays.
