Position Description

Become a leader within the community that invented the leading COVID-19 vaccines and is defining the future of science and technology – and define the way our innovation community collaborates for maximum impact. The Kendall Square Association (KSA) is a community platform that connects the people and advances the goals of the global epicenter of innovation – Kendall Square in Cambridge, MA.

The KSA seeks a creative and entrepreneurial individual to drive and expand programs that accelerate the growth and development of Kendall’s most important resource – our people. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker who designs and delivers programs to anticipate future needs while being nimble enough to realize opportunities in the moment. This person will have ownership of entire learning and development programs and will guide the KSA team in executing flawless user-centric learning experiences.

Evolve Existing Learning and Development Programming (40%)

  • Develop a framework to guide current and future learning and development at the KSA to enable internal and external stakeholders to understand how this learning fosters connectivity of key constituencies; surfaces insights; builds collective capacity for cultural change; and provides thought leadership for Kendall Square.
  • Oversee ongoing delivery of current programs for the Kendall employer community including Future of (how we) Work (launched April 2020); Inclusion Drives Innovation (launched September 2020).
  • Manage excellent program quality and seek out opportunities for continuous improvement in order to drive maximum learning outcomes for participants and financial returns for the KSA.
  • Manage 1-2 junior colleagues and work successfully cross functionally with others on the team.

Generate New Learning and Development Programming (60%)

  • Develop and deploy concurrent, highly visible learning programs that enable key segments of the Kendall Square community to connect and learn together while simultaneously driving profitability for the organization.
  • Develop a network of partners, building strong relationships: source, contract, and collaborate with internal and external subject matter and content experts, business partners, and vendors on the design of leadership development and educational initiatives.
  • Train our internal team to deliver exceptionally engaging gatherings and meetings.
  • Design and build an Inclusion Drives Innovation alumni community to maintain strong connectivity and support among alumni and to assess the ongoing impact of anti-racist practices and policies being implemented within alumni organizations.
  • As the Kendall community emerges from the pandemic, work with the KSA team to define the experience of in person, hybrid and remote programming to ensure KSA is meeting member needs.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10-15 years of professional experience, including building and scaling leadership development programs
  • Experience leading and working on small, entrepreneurial teams
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and a fast-paced environment
  • Expert coaching and facilitation skills; experience collaborating with C-suite executives
  • Highly adaptable to change; able to easily navigate between high level strategy and roll-up-your-sleeves tactical execution
  • Excellent writer with impeccable grammar
  • A Lara Croft, Tomb Raider/Indiana Jones style of on-the-go problem solving
  • Strong project management skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Passion for learning and continuous improvement
  • Accountable to expectations and deadlines
  • Organized, self-motivated and able to multitask
  • Mission-driven

  • We hire both proven and emerging leaders and invest in their growth and development to enable them to drive meaningful impact and grow to become the next generation of great civic leaders.
  • Leveraging new ways of working that we discovered during the pandemic, we are experimenting with a hybrid work model with the expectation that everyone spends at least three days per week in the office
  • We value and enable a strong work-life balance, however the Senior Director of Learning and Development will periodically need to be available outside of 9 to 5 office hours to be responsive to media opportunities, community meetings or other events
