The Supportive Advocacy Services Director provides primary supervision of all supportive service entry points including; Domestic Violence Intake Centers (NW & SE), Court and ensures quality, consistency and reliability of services with a focus on systemic advocacy.
Programmatic Support and Function
- Support and oversee programmatic calendar. Insure that monthly schedule is up to date and coverage is coordinated.
- Insure quality of SAT services and records through internal and external quality control measures. Report necessary information to management.
- Supervise the implementation of new resources and ensure that SAT staff are following established referral mechanisms and screening.
- Attend Monthly partner meetings as necessary
- Prepare monthly statistics for internal tracking and to share with our community partners.
- Attend monthly meetings to share trends and coordinate client services across DC SAFE programming.
- Attend weekly shelter meetings to coordinate SAFE services for existing and new clients in need of emergency shelter.
- Act as backup and support for Supportive Advocacy and Crisis Response Teams when necessary.
- The independent authority to make decisions about service delivery based on policies provided with secondary support available as needed.
- Mandatory attendance, coordination and facilitation of staff meeting and advocate meeting.
- Support the supervision and training of staff, interns and volunteers as needed.
- Provide Supervision at the Domestic Violence Intake Center locations as schedule allows.
- Lead or support all SAT grant projects as assigned.
- Attend meetings to assist in identifying trends and ensure quality services through regular case review, collaborate in shaping program goals, policies, and procedures, for clients, grant funding, and integration of services for community partners.

- Coordinate with and Support the Training & Education Specialist in onboarding and ongoing staff development.
- Coordinate and Support the Continuing Education Units (C.E.U.s) programming
- Conduct outreach and education functions regarding DC SAFE Programing and domestic violence as needed including attending Police Roll Calls and Police Ride Alongs.
- Participate in trainings to enhance professional knowledge of domestic violence and leadership skills.
Systems Advocacy (Supportive Advocacy focus)
- Assist the Director of Operations in communicating the organization’s mission, vision, role in the community of providers, network, connectivity to system and community organizations, continuums of care, and reform efforts, in all onboarding as well as in continuing education and training events.
- Serve as the primary administrative Point of Contact for both system-based and community-based partner organizations;
- Identify key systems advocacy opportunities or challenges, in context of strategic plan, and build relationships with community stakeholders to advance the goals and mission of the organization;
- Prepare or approve testimony, provide testimony and background briefings to City Council and other City Officials; (as needed)
- Track internal policies and protocols of partner agencies to assess the impact on operations of programs and interactions with clients.
- Conduct meetings and site visits with potential new operational partners, and team with Director of Operations ensure linkage of other victim service providers to DC SAFE;
- Financial Team in reporting on major grant and donor requirements.
- Assists in other duties as needed and directed.
- Participation as needed in all direct client services.
- Attention to Detail: Closely follows protocol and procedures achieves thoroughness and accuracy when accomplishing a task through concern for all the areas involved.
- Problem-solving: Identifies issues, effectively structures problems, analyzes data to produce insights, and generates wise, actionable recommendations.
- Project management: Oversees and structures complex projects, plans backwards, ensures quality end-products are delivered on or ahead of schedule, without crises.
- Communications: Produces strong written documents, edits documents effectively, engages in effective verbal communication.
- External Relations: Serves as an effective ambassador, builds connections, and maintains relationships with outside constituents.
- Requirements: 1-2 years of experience with crisis intervention, domestic violence services and/or trauma informed work.
- 5 years managerial and supervision experience
- Experience with leadership, supervision and team development.
- Applicants with mandatory 40-hour advocacy training completed preferred.
- Bilingual applicants welcome
- Experience with local domestic violence issues and DC social service resources.
- Attention to detail and ability to closely follow protocol and procedures is a must.
- Experience working with law enforcement preferred.
- Comfortable working with diverse populations.
- Experience with the criminal and civil legal system preferred.
