Published 17 days ago

Through its Environmental Health (EH) program, the Center for International Environmental Law (CIEL) works to strengthen regulation of toxic substances and protect communities and families worldwide from toxic risks. The Plastics Program Associate develops and implements identified strategies and activities to protect human rights and the environment from the lifecycle impacts of plastic, with a particular focus on its toxic impacts. The position works within a cross-program team to advance campaign objectives, including extensive drafting of materials for a range of coalition partners, communications platforms, and internal purposes.

The Program Associate supports CIEL’s organizational priorities on plastics and petrochemicals, broadly encompassed in two key strategies: 1. Securing a legally binding global treaty on the lifecycle of plastics and 2. Halting the expansion of petrochemical and plastic production infrastructure. The Program Associate will participate in coalition spaces on behalf of CIEL and maintain effective working relationships with partner organizations, as well as with the media and advocacy targets, including decisionmakers.

The position requires highly effective writing and/or public speaking skills; project management; event coordination; and ability to work in collaborative processes with people from diverse backgrounds. The position demands occasional national and international travel, often for significant periods. The Program Associate reports to the Plastics Campaign Manager.
