Korean Center, Inc. (KCI) is a community-based, nonprofit organization in the heart of San Francisco, established in 1974. Its mission has been to assist newly arrived Korean immigrants to realize their full potential in America through English language classes, training, and cultural and social services. In its 45+ years of service, KCI has evolved to offer a year-round Korean language program (King Sejong Institute), senior and youth programs, and cultural and educational programs -- including classes, workshops and events -- to promote Korean culture in San Francisco and the greater Bay Area.

The Korean Language Program (KLP) for adult is funded through the King Sejong Institute (KSI), a global network of 180 affiliates supported by the Republic of Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports & Tourism and the International Korean Language Foundation. The KSI was established to support and promote Korean language education and Korean culture around the world.

Position Summary

Program Assistant is responsible for assisting in planning, coordinating and managing all aspects of the KLP and day-to-day program operations. As an integral member of the KCI team, the Program Assistant also supports related programming and events, and reports to the Program Director. The position requires bilingual (English-Korean) fluency.


Program Planning & Coordination

  • Assist in coordinating and planning each semester’s class schedule and assignment of instructors
  • Keep track of student payments and maintain an up-to-date student database
  • Assist in organizing and conducting new student orientations, information sessions, and Korean cultural workshops
  • Assist in managing inventory of KLP course materials
  • Create KLP brochures, flyers, and other promotional materials
  • Maintain updated online (website, social media) information about the KLP

Student/Teacher Recruitment and Relations

  • Assist in coordinating and facilitating a monthly meeting with instructors and the Program Director
  • Respond to current or prospective students’ inquiries re: course registration, placement exams, refunds, and other administrative inquiries via email and phone
  • Assist in organizing workshops for instructors
  • Participate in instructor performance reviews with Program Director

Monitoring & Evaluation

  • Assist in collecting and analyzing data from multiple sources including student evaluations, feedback surveys, and data analytics

Grants Management

  • Assist in ensuring that all KSI grant guidelines and requirements are met
  • Assist in preparing program documentation and reports following KSI and KCI guidelines under the Program Director's supervision


  • Attend a weekly staff meeting with the status report of the program prepared
  • Create a monthly KCI e-newsletter and help update KCI’s website and social media
  • Fulfill other duties as assigned



  • Demonstrated understanding of and passion for Korean language and culture
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to clearly and diplomatically communicate across generations
  • Bilingual written and oral fluency in English and Korean
  • A strong work ethic, including the following qualities: organized, detail-oriented, flexible, reliable, goal-oriented, and dependable
  • Demonstrated ability to be proactive, take initiative, work independently (and remotely), and handle several programs simultaneously
  • Ability to thrive in a team-based collaborative decision-making environment
  • Bachelor’s (preferred) or Associate’s degree


  • Familiarity with (or willingness to learn) website updating and other digital media
  • Experience working with non-profit organizations
  • Minimum one year experience working in an administrative position

Job Types: Full-time, Temporary

Pay: $20.00 per hour
