About the Position

The Program Officer will work as an integral part of BRAC USA’s Program team to provide support to the Chief Program Officer (CPO) and the directors and managers on the program team.   Reporting to the CPO, the Program Officer will work closely with the education, health, agriculture and livelihoods, learning and innovation, and youth empowerment teams to support their fundraising efforts, their grants management, and their provision of technical support to BRAC programs globally.  

The position will be based in New York or Washington DC with a flexible location in the short term due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Primary Responsibilities may include the following:

●      Write LOIs, proposals, grant agreements, and due diligence reports to support new and ongoing fundraising and projects. 

●      Collaborate with in-country teams to design and implement new and ongoing monitoring, evaluation, and learning projects.

●      Engage partner NGOs, international organizations and funders to develop and implement research and innovation projects in BRAC countries.

●      Prepare team members for meetings by conducting research, developing strategies, and arranging briefing packages.

●      Join calls with external partners and BRAC/BI teams to take and share notes, and identify, share, and monitor completion of action items.

●      Coordinate panel discussions and webinars with outside partners, including academic researchers, for knowledge sharing on BRAC-related research projects.

●      Support the communications team to create presentations and marketing materials to showcase program and project successes.

●      Leading and/or supporting as requested on particular donor relationships and/or programs.

●      Supporting and working as a member of the team on major proposals, including to the US and Canadian governments. Responsibilities may entail managing the proposal process, writing key components of the design, writing institutional capabilities and editing technical sections of proposals.

●      Database management, including updates for pipeline reports, grant stewardship, prospect research, and contact management. Supporting the CPO in ensuring Salesforce is up to date.

●      Coordinating with BRAC USA teams to draft twice yearly reports to major donors.

●      Scheduling and planning monthly program team meetings, ensuring agenda and preparation are done in advance.

●      Coordinating fall events surrounding UNGA and Spring events surrounding the West Coast Board meeting. This includes managing both the internal generation of ideas and concepts, planning and managing the external meetings, outreach to external partners, planning and supporting logistics, and working with the communications and external affairs teams to manage external outreach. 

●      Supporting the CPO with select institutional partners including helping to determine strategy and approach, preparing briefing materials, scheduling preparatory meetings, and joining select calls and meetings to take and share notes; monitoring follow-up action items.

●      Responding to ad hoc, requests from the CPO, and program directors

Building an Inclusive Culture at BRAC USA

●      Supporting onboarding processes by meeting with new hires and interns to introduce them to work related to executive engagement and the Program and Outreach Teams portfolios.

●      Actively contributing to organizational culture development through activities such as retreat planning, survey developing and new hire orientation.

 


Qualifications

Education and Experience: 

●      Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of experience or  Masters’ degree and 2-3 years experience in international development or a related field


Knowledge and Skills: 

●      Proven interest in international development and nonprofit fundraising.

●      Demonstrated skills in prospect and pipeline research, business correspondence, reports, proposals, and blog posts.

●      Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks in a dynamic and entrepreneurial environment.

●      Excellent verbal and written communication skills with meticulous attention to detail.

●      Strong business writing skills; ability to analyze, synthesize, and clearly present information.

●      An aptitude for research (e.g., curiosity, critical thinking, and the ability to summarize information) is preferred.

●      An interest in technology for development, digital health interventions, or innovations for poverty reduction, preferred.

●      Friendly, flexible, confident, assertive and mature personality, with a great sense of humor.

●      Proactive and curious self-starter with demonstrated ability to learn quickly and be flexible.

●      Creative and strategic thinker with strong capacity to execute.

●      Previous experience working directly with senior leadership.

●      Ability to work collaboratively with a high functioning, intimate team

●      Professional demeanor and ability to interact successfully with a wide range of individuals and handle a fast-paced environment.

●      Diplomatic and highly effective on an interpersonal level in addition to cross-cultural sensitivity, knowledge, understanding, and coordinating across time zones.

●      Strong organizational ability and experience with databases/contact management systems such as Salesforce

●      Highly skilled user of Google and Microsoft Office applications.

●      Ability to travel periodically to BRAC countries as needed; and

●      Fluency in written and spoken English.
