POSITION TITLE: Grant Writer and Manager

REPORTS TO: Director of External Affairs

FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt

Job Type: Full Time

Annual Compensation: $62,000-$69,000

Location: San Diego, CA

Kitchens for Good is a non-profit with the mission to use food to transform lives and nourish communities by providing people with the skills and support to launch meaningful careers. Kitchens for Good has provided training to more than 300 job seekers through its apprenticeship programs and distributed more than 600,000 hunger relief meals to food-insecure San Diegans.

Position Summary:

Kitchens for Good is searching for a methodical and strategic grant writer and manager to work with our organization in enhancing funding models, identifying new sources of funding, and developing sustainable and effective programs. Duties for the grant writer and manager will include managing overall grant efforts, optimizing the grant administration process, preparing progress reports, ensuring compliance with grant regulations, reviewing grant proposals, managing grant databases, engaging with donors and foundations, and engaging team members in grant development and management.

The ideal candidate for this role will have superior organizational skills, exceptional writing skills, and great leadership qualities.

 What you will be responsible for:

·        Determines proposal concept by identifying and clarifying opportunities and needs, studying requests for proposal (RFPs), and attending strategy meetings.

·        Prepares proposals.

·        Meets proposal deadline by establishing priorities and target dates for information gathering, writing, review, approval, and transmittal.

·        Enters and monitors tracking data.

·        Coordinates grant requirements and tracking with team members and hosts regular grant information and review meetings.

·        Develops proposals by assembling information including project nature, objectives/outcomes/deliverables, implementation, methods, timetable, staffing, budget, standards of performance, and evaluation.

·        Writes, revises, and edits drafts including executive summaries, conclusions, and organization credentials.

·        Maintains quality results by using templates; following proposal-writing standards including readability, consistency, and tone; maintaining proposal support databases.

·        Obtains approvals by reviewing proposal with key stakeholders and project managers.

·        Improves proposal-writing results by evaluating and re-designing processes, approach, coordination, and boilerplate.

·        Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; maintaining personal networks.

·        Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests and exploring new opportunities.

·        Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Work Experience Qualifications  

·        Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Media, or related field.

·        Minimum of five years' experience in grant writing, prospect research, or general fundraising.

·        Advanced experience and knowledge in Microsoft Office 365 programs (Excel, Word, Power Point, One Drive, and Share Point).

·        Salesforce proficiency a plus.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.  

Physical Demands

The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The employee is occasionally required to sit, stand, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, push, and pull items weighing 25 pounds or less. The position requires manual dexterity; auditory and visual skills, and the ability to follow written and oral instructions and procedures.


Position Type/Expected Hours of Work 

 

This is a full-time position non-exempt position scheduled at 40 hours a week.

 

Travel

Employee will be expected to travel to as needed, to additional KFG locations, and overnight travel may be required. Employee must have driver’s license, reliable transportation, and ability to work across multiple sites.
