The Director is an engaging, proactive, team-player responsible for a broad range of global leadership activities in support of our Vaccine Access & Uptake and Knowledge & Innovation programs, including strategic planning, study design and implementation, conference and workshop agenda-setting and oversight, and publications and project management. Responsibilities also include staff supervision, partner relations, program administration, and grants and budget management. This individual provides program leadership and strategic guidance in collaboration with the President of Global Immunization. The Director possess the proven ability to inspire and motivate. S/he is a key contributor to establishing and maintaining positive, professional relations with staff, current and prospective funders, researchers, national government officials and immunization specialists at all levels. Effective collaboration across continents and sectors is critical to extend the benefits of immunization around the globe.  


• Lead, manage and grow Sabin’s vaccine programs, workshops and studies to increase the uptake of vaccines at global, regional and national levels

• Function as a strategic leader on all related programs and provide subject-matter expertise and guidance

• Lead the development of program content (topics, agendas, speakers, etc.) for conferences and workshops 

• Provide programmatic and technical guidance to staff

• Present at related global forums and public events that align with Sabin’s mission 

• Lead stakeholder engagement for assigned projects to build and maintain essential relationships with partners and funders

• Ensure that grant requirements and project deliverables are timely achieved

• Supervise program team members and manage consultants

• Oversee the preparation and management of project budgets in consultation with the Accounting team; budgets range from single event to multi-year and 100k to multimillion-dollar

• Collaborate with others on resource mobilization for related projects, which includes:

o Working closely with the Resource Development Team to drive fundraising and donor cultivation efforts

o Overseeing the technical portion of donor reports, grant proposals and concept notes 

o Building awareness of Sabin’s brand and past accomplishments in vaccine advocacy

• Undertake additional managerial duties, as assigned


• Bachelor’s degree in a related field; Master’s degree in a related field preferred

• 12+ years relevant experience, preferably in a health/public health-related sector from non-profit or private sector and/or public health/global heath environment

• 8+ years experience in global vaccine program management, including extensive experience managing multiple grants simultaneously and at all stages of development (proposal to implementation) 

• 8+ years technical experience in vaccine advocacy and/or immunization program management

• 8+ years supervisory experience and demonstrated ability to operate effectively in a small team setting

• 5+ years experience in lower- and/or middle-income country vaccine programs

• Experience in writing/editing manuscripts for peer-review publications

• Fluency in at least one other language, preferably Spanish, Portuguese and/or French  

• Excellent communicator, presenter and public speaker

• Ability to travel domestically and internationally approximately 20% 

• Demonstrated computer proficiency with all Microsoft applications and experience conducting internet research and medical literature searches and reviews

• High ethical standards as well as a professional demeanor 

• Detail-oriented, highly organized and able to multi-task effectively
