PEN America is excited to announce the debut of our in-person, on-site Summer Free Expression Advocacy Institutes. The Institutes, held in New York City and Washington DC, will be five-day, educational and training programs where high school students can learn the theories, laws, histories, and methodologies behind free expression advocacy. The daily schedule will include presentations led by expert legal and policy practitioners from PEN America, interactive workshops designed to teach tangible skills, field trips to relevant sites around the host city, and TA-facilitated discussion sessions and activities to dive deeper into the issues with their peers.
In order to facilitate a robust, successful program, we will hire up to 3 counselors for each Institute session. Responsibilities would include facilitating discussion sessions and handling day-to-day tasks as needed. Please find the details of the position below:

Pay: $1,000 ($25/hour); plus lunch and snacks provided daily
Requirements:
Must consent to background check, which includes fingerprinting. PEN America will pay for associated costs and provide assistance
